Is it realistic to pursue art even when your family discourages it?

Some self portraits I did for school. I tried to stylize it and I think the one on the right turned out well. Any critiques?

This is pretty fancy. Although I'm not too familiar with Manga, some more shading could really make your work pop. Try to smooth the shadows and be very precise with your strokes to give it a cleaner aesthetic. Keep it up!

I really like how it portrays motion, really feels like the painting's going 50 Mph, and the colors on the figure are really nice. The sun illuminates the person's skin, making it look vibrant, but the sky is looks muddy and gray with all the colors. Try to study some color theory and add some subtle light to the background. I'm no expert though, so take that with some salt :)

The shading on the left is very nice , but the left your half tones got muddied up. I'm Right handed, so if you are too id recommend using another piece of paper to prevent smudging and keep your halftones clean. Also pointy socket and asymmetry.

Hello everyone ! I'm Cyril from France I started drawing when I was a kid in middle school.  I really liked it but never envisioned myself making a living from it. Then I kinda quit drawing when I entered high school... Now I'm 34, I work in IT and I wish I had continued drawing and painting! I picked up my pencils a year ago after 10 years without drawing (thanks to the covid lockdown...) and 'm working hard to improve my skills as I plan to one day be able to live from it! I'm really excited to become part of this community, learn, improve and share this passion of mine with you guys :) Here are some of my last drawings, Chears <3 Cyril

Hi everyone, I'm Dan, from Australia. Pretty excited about this platform, hopefully able to get into the community and learn a lot here (and get me out of the 'I'll just practice the fundamentals more' rut). I have an obscure subject interest in wasps and other insects, which makes it difficult to learn but also enjoyable. I really like traditional art (probably because I suck at digital art :p), particularly charcoal/pastel, though unfortunately I only recently discovered this wonderful media!

Hey, I'm in high school, and have been drawing for a few years. I don't know what I'm going to do in art, but I'd like to become a professional. Eventually.
