I find it challenging to find the rhythm - even though I can see it - for 2 main reasons. A) Because I’m trying to learn to hold the pencil differently, but also B) because I don’t yet have the skill to assess distances, sizes & proportions on the fly, so I have to measure all the time which doesn’t help a lot with ‘flow’. Unless I have the wrong idea … I feel like there are some gaps in knowledge here between the project & execution. Or maybe I just missed something.

Honestly, I'm not too happy with these. I tried drawing using overhand grip but I still can't control the pencil that well. I also struggled trying to draw the figure quickly. Any tips/critiques on how to improve are welcome. Would love some feedback.

I’m having a hard time with this too. Remember that if you post in 'The Community’ (as opposed to here) there’s a ‘Ask for help’ box you can check

I tried again with an image I liked better - it was fun even with the misjudgements revealed with the overlay. Centred the overlay on the eyes because otherwise it looks like they are too far apart & they aren’t! Learning ...

Can’t see this - the lines are too light
@deadsm
I don't feel great about this but I find that it is really hard to eyeball proportion without looking at shadows. This breaks the idea that we should be looking out for better shapes like in the last few lessons and isn't great for drawing the same subject later.

I really like this

OK! Not the best but also not the worst! I skipped the curls because they are above my pay grade. I don’t have the resources for the overlay - yet

I skipped the curls because they are above my pay grade, and the flowers because too be honest, my patience was reaching an end. But with the overlay I can see that the eyes are way too high, their angle too steep, and I misjudged the location of the neck, but overall not the worst job for a beginner. I’m encouraged.

I had a bit of trouble with this but I can see how it would be helpful to see things this way

After watching the critiques & demo I tried again but my mind does not like thinking like this. I understand. the concept but I have a lot of trouble in practice for some reason. I tried to keep the original images simple but I'm still over-complicating - but I can't see a way through doing that. Does that make sense?
