The colors are interesting, those purple tones on the skin reminds me of Leyendecker, i also like that you took care of the hairstyle to fit in the 30s, one thing i could say about it is that you have some room to improve your shapes, make exaggerations of some parts so you get stronger silhouettes, you can try it putting another kind of dress on your character or making bigger bumps of hair. I also think that the casted shadows on the iteration's page are not right, you have a strong rim light behind her, made with hard edges, so the casted shadow on the ground should use hard edges as well, i feel like that could improve the presentation
i feel like you have a sense of gesture, but the drawings are lacking of structure, and maybe you're not getting all the proportions right, it seems like you're trying to draw a silhouette, in some of the photos the model is twisting it's torso but i can't see that movement in your drawings. One of the big problems you will face when trying to turn this quick drawings into more defined human figures is that you will sacrifice a lot of your gesture lines in the moment you add muscles and 3D basic forms, and that in consequence will stiffen your figures at the end.
So if you want to make something about it, try to find the skeletal landmarks first and be more aware of your proportions from the start, that way a lot of your initial gestural lines will survive the mannequinization and anatomy stages.

It's very impressive, the layout is quite clear and the textures are really interesting, reminding me of Katsuhiro Otomo. Maybe if you want to present it better you should use other typography fonts, and try to incorporate the text into the image in a more organized way, playing with the space between the letters.
I feel like i can't say anything very insightful about the image itself, but at least i can encourage to keep doing them, you're doing a really good job!

What makes a difference between artist training in Western and Eastern? what makes some asian styles of art appealing?
is it really useful to learn how to draw at hand, instead of drawing digitally? using ctrl+z frequently will make me less thoughtful of my drawings somehow?

You could make a decision according to the story of your image, try to imagine an event if you did not have one, and write it down somewhere, just ask yourself, what moment is more important? Which of these ideas best communicates what I want?
I think composition is the subjective part of art, and a lot of that has to do with making decisions, there is no right way to make a composition, but try at least to be clear.
You achieve clarity through contrast, if you do a lot of dark spots in a canvas, and then you place a yellow square somewhere, that square will be more important than the rest of the dark spots

Hi Carlos
The notification you are getting refers to notification in the lower part of the attached picture "Marco Bucci added a new lesson in The Color Survival Guide".
If you click on that notification, you should no longer have any active notifications.
An easy way to check which notification is still categorized as "Not seen" is to look for the red dot to the left of the message.

Hi, i'm not an expert on perspective but i think this image looks cropped due to a decision with your vanishing points. The Horizon Line is above half of the image, so i was expecting to find the lines converging in some point below the sight of the viewer. However, here you decided to make the lines of your box converge on top, so it looks like the box is a bit wider at the bottom, rather than looking like a perspective distortion. i think adjusting that would help you with this drawing.
i like the project presentation, it's clear and i can get an idea of the tone of the series. So that's really good. However, i think some of the decision designs, like the clothing color of some characters can be improved, it's not a big deal but it can push the design's clarity if you simply adjust your values.
Same issue with your BGs, especially with the 7th image and the last one. The objective of this field is to communicate an idea to a production team, not presenting a final piece, so before putting detail in the paintings, try to maintain enough value contrast between the objects so that it can read better, just be more conscious about your shapes and edges. good luck with your applications!

i like the proko site so far, it feels like some kind of reddit but with a marketplace with courses. When will the Marshall perspective course come out, and will those be uploaded to YT as freemium content as well?
Great work!
And you're right, design "fundamentals" are a lot less tangible. For me, good shape design is at the core of good design- and your list of principles are good guidelines to get there.
I had a go at your first set- trying to simply push the shapes and contrast the props amongst each other. It can be as simple as making one taller vs another wider. Tapering up vs tapering down. Making one big and one small.
You have good designs in general, which is why I think your question of clarity arises. To make them more clear- think about what your intent is for each prop. Lock onto the qualities of the design that make it more individual and exaggerate them. (You can always tone it down after.)
I love the Cerberus idea- stuff like that is clear because it connects the function of "mythological guard dog" to "treasure chest" and it make sense. From there you want to make your shapes reinforce that message/intent. My pass on it was pretty simple but maybe there's an iteration where the top is just three huge dog heads and the legs underneath the chest are paws. (Just brainstorming another way to integrate "Cerberus" into "treasure chest.") This is where design can get really fun when we have interesting purposes to justify and give meaning to interesting shapes.
Clarity in design is showing intent! But have fun trying different ways to get the message across!

oh, i didn't see the notifications but thank you for taking the time to provide your critique! I think i should play more with the idea and just enjoy the process. I will continue practicing too, and hopefully over time these bold decisions will be a little easier

I like that you're making a construction before shading the drawing, but you seem to have problems with proportions, it is very noticeable when your compare the size of the eyes, the head is a complex volume and it needs an understanding of some rules of perspective. If you have trouble making symmetry stuff, i would recommend you to take a step back and tackle simple volumes first

i usually draw in PC, so i feel comfortable with Krita and Fire Alpaca, a lot of my friends are into Clip Paint Studio, because they only had to pay once, but it has really cool features, like perspective and animation tools

How do i check if my designs are clear or not?3yr
Hi, im Carlos! im a begginer artist who is trying to get into concept design: i have been lucky enough to get into online communities where i can post my practices. Im currently doing some prop design sketches once a week.
Fundamentals in other areas of making images, like perspective or rendering are more clear to me, i know where to get the knowledge, but fundamentals of design are more vague.
How do i check if my designs are clear or not? i think design is more about making choices but how do i know if im doing the right choices-
The only principles that i can thing right now are this ones, this is my checklist
1. Function
2. Contrast
3. Big medium small
4. Shape motiffs and shape language

Hi! as i see, in your portrait you are lacking of some contrast between objects, the color of her sweater and the color of her skin is really close, looking at it from afar, it is hard to distinguish when one thing begins and when another ends, so i suggest that you darken her clothing. It would also help you to get some knowledge on perspective and practice drawing the planes of the face with a mannequin like the Azaro Head, perspective knowledge is important even if you are into fine arts. I hope it helps.
