Make sure your minor axis is converging towards a point that's on the HL (in assignment 3, cylinders 20, 10, 15 aren't doing this. + in a 2pp; when the minor axis is perpendicular to the HL, this will be a vertical cylinder. (if you'd construct this in a box, the ellipses will be placed in the top and bottom plane of that box.) You have some cylinders where the minor axis is vertical but you've drawn the cylinder as if we are looking straight at it

Try to simplify what you see in the reference in to a simple mannequin. The goal is to understand the forms of these creatures. So it's okay if it isn't a perfect copy. I feel like you tried too much to make your drawing look like the reference without using simple forms.

Your boxes are a bit distorted, this is because your lines of your box aren't comming together at the same point. A box in a 3 pp has 3 vp's; 1 vp is on the left side of the box (all lines from the box that are going to the left need to come together at the same point), the second one is on the right side of the box. These 2 vp's are sitting on the HL. Now if we look down on a box then the 3rd vp should be below the box and vice versa.

Hello, you could use more simple forms. It's good that you established a box first for the general perspective. But try to simplify the hippo in the simple forms. Right now you've just coppied what you see in the reference. Your mannequin doesn't have to look exactly like the hippo you see in the ref, only the form/perspective needs to be the same. So try using cylinders/manipulated boxes only.

When we mannequinize a subject we don't want to focus on the details (ears, eyes, ..) We want to capture the general form/structure. It's okay if your mannequin doens't look exactly like your reference. So try to take a few steps back and use manipulated boxes and cylinders only.

Remember that when a vertical cylinder gets closer to the HL, it's ellipse should become more and more narrow untill it's eventually flat (right on the HL). Also, when we look up at a box (meaning the box is above the HL) the 3rd should then be above the box, not below.

Remember that in a 1 pp all converging cylinders have circles as an ellipse. The degree of your ellipse only changes in a 1 pp with horizontal and vertical cylinders. Also when a vertical cylinder gets closer to the HL, it's ellipse should become more and more narrow untill it's eventually flat (right on the HL)

Make sure you draw the HL next time, it's easier for me to give feedback if I know what you were thinking when you were drawing these. What I can say is; In a 1 pp (point perspective) all converging cylinders have circles as an ellipse. The degree of your ellipse only changes in a 1 pp with horizontal and vertical cylinders

3 Assignments submission. 2 and 3 were really fun and super challenging while 1 was quite relaxing. I added colored numbers to the cylinders, I hope it makes critiquing easier.

I drew the 1p perspective forms freehand. The 2p and 3p and assignment #4 I used a pencil to draw in vanishing point lines. Then drew over it with a pen. I have some experience with perspective in art and wanted to do some slightly complicated stuff that would be difficult (for me) to do freehand. Also I'm practicing value/cross hatching - line weight - with ink and just added that on these shapes.

For boxes in a 1 pp (point perspective), all the vertical lines should be parallel with each other and all the horizontal lines should be perpendicular to these vertical lines (because there is no convergence in those dimensions)

On the 1p and 2point perspective I wanted the support of the vanishing point lines. There are more of these I made without the supporting lines on pages not shown here. I'm able to do it but after looking at them I didn't like the repetitiveness of my ovals and depending on the direction they lost the appearnce of "space".

Nice! Try to loosen up a bit, get creative and explore different relationships between the shapes. For example; very large wings, small body. Or medium wings with a larger body and small tail etc. It's all about big, medium, small. If you want more information on this, go check out Sinix on youtube. He has some great tutorials on shape design/relationship.

I'll be going for some sort of humming bird/dragon fly/triceratops thing. I ended up making a new thumb nail to suite the features better, but did keep the wings of one of the thumbs (in design). Pureref is also a pretty good free tool for this kind of thing if anyone was looking for one (Ctrl + n for notes).

Love the idea! I would draw the dragon in an angle that's a bit more informative (more of a 3/4 angle). Right now we are looking straight up at the dragon and it's a bit hard to read.

(if you'd construct this in a box, the ellipses will be placed in the top and bottom plane of that box.)
