I wonder if it’s possible to get the same effects with graphite, e.g. a 2B pencil

Great idea about using hieroglyphics! However I am afraid this never will be understood without explanation.

Yes, I will have to add an epilogue. But if I just drew random symbols Egyptologists everywhere will call me out! Plus I would have no idea what I was saying.

I haven’t cleaned up the pencilling obviously but I enjoyed this page, because I found out you can translate English into hierglyphics online, so the text on the tomb wall says something like “beware the woman with the snake-green eyes”. And that’s the femme fatale here of course. And my cats make a cameo.

This is cool, @arthur whelan! Indeed, there’s something about this page that feels a bit retro to me, too. And I think this is not a bad thing! It’s great that you’re drawing in a way that you enjoy. I tried to guess what parts you did traditionally and what parts were digital, but I couldn’t quite be sure - I’m assuming that you did the drawings and inking traditionally, and the colors digitally? Or are the colors also traditional watercolor, and the digital part was just a few general adjustments? Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your kind comments. Mostly watercolour but it is unwise to attempt glow effects that way, ask me how I know! I use Procreate to add the flourishes. After trying to create galaxies with a toothpaste and white gouache, I discovered you can get a “galaxy” brush in Procreate. Argh. Still, creating a whole new science fiction universe was never going to be anything but challenging.

2023/5/11. Good morning fellow artists. Trying to get better in drawing muscular bodies. I decided to practice quick sketches 30 mins every morning (1 pose 10 mins) until the end of summer. Let’s see what happens. Thanks for any comment or advice. Have a good day.

I say this often, sorry if you’ve already heard it elsewhere, but write the date on each drawing and store them, it is really helpful for motivation when you can see proof of improvement

Sometimes I think my art style is stuck in the 1980s. But I enjoy drawing these stories.

I gave up drawing at 13 thinking I would never be any good, and started again at age 30. I would wonder in the middle of the night if i was wasting my time, but came across three good pieces of advice: Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up. From a practical point of view, an excellent tip I read somewhere was to copy old master drawings, write the date on them, store them in a cardboard box. Then copy the first one again. This way you will see proof of improvement because you can’t see yourself getting better from day to day. Hope this helps. I’m illustrating graphic novels now.

I've decided to start this course over. It's been several months since I've done any gesture work. My goal is to start pushing poses more and using more confident lines. There are still some scratchy lines, but old habits are hard to break. 1-6 are 30 second gestures. The rest are 2 minutes.

Hi I’m not an instructor but personally I have found it helpful to think of my drawing arm as one of those 1900s biplanes bumping along a grass runway until they take off into the air. Hopefully that makes sense

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has made a slideshow out of reference photos so that each image is up for, say, two minutes. All the iPad/app options I’ve looked at only go up to a few seconds.

This is something I read in a book - start with five dots. They are the head, feet and hands. And build the imaginary pose from there.
