Hi everyone :) I issue a speedpaint challenge! Paint or draw the attached (totally adorable) Red Panda in your own style:

* By Sunday 13 June

Too late for the deadline but I'd saved this guy on my phone for next time I had the palette ready to go - Oil on 'PaintOn' paper with a base of Black 3.0. Recorded the process too so sorting out the footage now had so much fun :)

Here’s my little panda :) this took me the full two hours because I really struggled with the weird perspective.
Fun fact - The Firefox logo is of a red panda! I never knew that.

Since it was supposed to be speed paint (and also that today my eyes hurt so much and I had to put on my glasses!!!):
30 minutes digital paint.
I lost so much time with the face, I couldn't catch the expression. :/
I had no idea what the red panda's paws actually looked like so I went looking for them to see how they clung (also because I wanted to define them just barely in all that black mass).
I thought they'd have a little more lugged toes, since they're an arboreal species, but instead they have really cute, chubby little paws that look a lot like a cat's but are wider, with nice oval fingertips and very sharp little nails.
if you google image "red panda paws" you will find a detailed illustration among the first results.
They are the cutest thing!

Here we go. This was around 20 minutes, trying to 'speed-paint' in my favourite style, charcoal. Done digitally in Infinite Painter. Thanks for the prompt :)
Interesting fact: reproduction of Red Pandas is more similar in process to Raccoons and Skunks than other Pandas.

Ah this is adorable Dan!! I love how you’ve captured his cute fluffy fur and face, and your expressive line work. I also like how your panda is kind of flattened against the tree too like he just woke up from a nap and has all his weight on that branch. Great work! Thanks for participating 😁🎨😁

Took me around 50 Minutes :)
Fact to red pandas: they start their evening routine with cleaning their fur by "washing" it with their licked paws :)

For the panda gact, I just suggest to follow the San Diego Zoo profiles on Instagram or Facebook : they publish very often videos of their red pandas (and not only pandas!), including mama MeiMei with her cub Pabu (who always plays, he's so cute! <3).
