Tbh i hade no idea of where to post this. But i did this drawing today and its based of Mira from Kpop demon hunters.
just want some honesty, Is this trash?
I have been stuck at this lvl for soo long and i have no idea how to grow any furthur with my art and i feel just stuck.
i have no idea how to add the high lights or do the shadows correctly here.
what is it i need to do to lvl upp my skill? I am at a loss.
I know i have been avoiding rendering and light theory the most.
mostly because i just dont have any idea how to tackle them.
I did this all with an hb pencil.
no other pencil was used.
but i am asking genually for help here.
plz tell me. What do i need to practise to get better here.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, thx.
Btw the camera on my phone makes things lighter then they really are.
Just a heads upp.
((feel free to critique anything else that you dont like)) again, thx.
I'd say it's a fairly accurate recreation of the reference you were using. If that's what you were going for, well done!
It seems you omitted the sword or whatever it is on the back and didn't shade in some of the hair behind the head. From the reference it seems the light sources would be from above and perhaps behind the character. When you study your reference ask yourself, what parts of your character are in light and which parts are in shadow. You may want to take a second sheet of paper and do a rough block-in value sketch. Think about reducing your reference to a series of broad, flat planes. Like a low poly, blocky video game model from the 90's.
One of the simplest exercises to do to learn light and shadow is use a gooseneck lamp on a ball. You want to use a room you can turn all of the other lights off and only use that gooseneck lamp as a single light source to light your object with. Then you can familiarize yourself with all of the lighting terminology like cast shadow, core shadow, direct light, bounce light, ect.
For help with lighting, you can check the YouTube channel of Marco Bucci He can explain about lighting and color better than I can.
This video by Marco Bucci ( https://youtu.be/DQ5QF0q4QqQ ) will give you a crash course in shading a sphere with a single light source.
thx, i have seen the video from Marco, its just i dont have a good light source at home to use for practice atm. About the hair. I intentionally left out the shadows in the hair, The reason i did so is because tbh i have no indea on how to shade or render hair. I have seen others do it and have tired to repilicate it. It just dosnt work for me when i do it. So i knew about the underline of the hair aka the back of the pony tail is suppose to be in shadow. Just dont know how to render or shade hair. Thx for the feedback ^^
Side note : dont think i did the face that well. there are many inconsistencies with it. Like how one eye is way bigger then the ref, the eyes are to close to one another, the mouth is slightly to big. the shadows dont have distinkt planes to show how the face is not a flat structure. the hair is very flat in my opinion and those are the things i see when i look side by side.
But anyway, thx again ^^
