lnitially, I spent more time trying to get things right but as I went, I slowly just started doodling and trying to get the perspective right more intuitively.

Finally my first assignment after catching up :D and also the hardest one yet!
Iniitially, I tried to do small thumbnails studies but it was kinda hard to design the shapes or get the right feel without going bigger for this. So, after getting the rough idea of what I wanted with small thumbnails, I took the image from the Proko value tool and went into Procreate to design the values and shapes. It felt like it made things much easier and faster. Also, I could focus on the shapes and value grouping instead of actually shading and erasing and adjusting.
Then, at the end, I did it with my sketchbook. I'm not sure if it was okay for me to simplify or change it too much. I wanted to make it feel like the face/head was separating from a larger object (hope I got it), instead of the bottom part feeling like the beard of the head.
This assignment was also hard because I couldn't really tell where the light was coming from and so what kind of value groupings made the most sense.

Did an ortho of a monster that's a simplifed version of MapleStory's Wooden Mask monster.
1st attempt: Wasn't sure of how to set the grid and didn't pay too much attention to the proportions
2nd attempt: Created a grid after first creating a box in perspective to get an idea of the vanishing points, then using the box lines as reference to create the grid
3rd attempt: More extreme angles

Shading sphere following untimed demo, any feedback welcomed :)
Had a few questions while doing this
- Not sure how we determine where to place terminator or the curvature of the terminator
- Not too sure why we outline the whole sphere with a darker outline at the end
Didn't realise we had reference images to draw from until I saw the critique video...

2-value and 3-value studies.
Hard some times to tell if a value is darker or lighter (○´ ― `)ゞ
I definitely feel ya on the accuracy of values. Stan himself pointed out that some values may appear darker or lighter than normal depending on what other values surround them. From what I can gather, it's just an optical illusion and you get better with practice.
