Asked for help
I've been dreaming up ideas of filming dynamic shots of me working in my studio for some time now, so this was a great opportunity to consider what this might look like. My space is currently designed for personal comfort, with lots of plants (the little ovals scattered around) and decoration. In a film production setup, I removed what furniture I could to make space for my camera to move around in during dynamic shots, and a softbox. I moved the desk to the center so that I can sit on either side of it, which adds versatility in my background and lighting situation (backlit vs. frontlit by the window). It also makes room to hang my whiteboard on the wall, encouraging more standing and verticality around the space, which could complement the standing desk I already use. I sometimes feel cramped and hunched in the space, so more verticality could help in this regard. The big downside of this design is that the space feels less cozy and more like a film set where "all eyes are on me" at my desk, which could change the meaning of the space to me even when I'm not filming myself.
A curious direction to experiment with. I usually love designing my spaces in this way, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to put it on paper and articulate my thoughts about it this time. Thanks for the exercise, Sterling!
