So…I know I am extremely late on the assignment but here are my sketches (haven’t seen the critique video yet!) Meet Joe..he is a very lazy capybara who loves to eat and spend quality time with Bird, his inseparable companion of adventures.

Thanks Audrey! After looking the demo I realised that I was approaching it all wrong! Nonetheless I am glad that I did it 1st and then checked the video, it helped put on focus my mistakes! Once I watched it I basically had the same reaction as your comment!

I got a little too precious with the boots once I tried to simplify the laces.

Here my submission for the 2nd level (yeah, I know too late, thanks!). Just wanted to post it anyway.. did after the tutorial..I gained a lot from this exercise! I will practice with other photos to stay sharp and get better! Proportions are slightly off..and the values of the shadows are a bit too close to eachother..but I realised only when I started with the darker tone, and that was the darker I had ahaha.. anyway any criticism is welcome! Thanks

I have been practicing the mushroom warm up every day and I have to say it helped a lot with muscle memory so thanks Stan! Always on point..still long way to go..but progress is never negative, no matter how small! It kind of clicked a lot more on the camel and skeleton sketches..those ones came quick! The one it took me the most it was the boots one: too many shapes to put in place. I feel like that belonged more to the 2nd level people! I simplified as much as I could to deliver just the shapes, leaving out the smaller details that didn't help with the description of the contours..I hope that I got it right! Simplifying the volumes into more elementary shapes helped me understanding what was important before coming in with a darker value and defining the final contours..

Here is my 2nd attempt on the level 1. Pictures are not really good (especially the one with the actual apple). Decided to change the position of the light source to challenge myself and make it different. This assignment turned out harder than I expected! Not really happy about it but it's part of process. I think I didn't get the shapes quite right and neither the balance in the values. Was hoping to attempt the level 2 before the deadline but oh well.. I'll try anyway at some point!

Just finished work and i am exhausted but I wanted to try out this assignment right away. Not my greatest, but it's refreshing to see how little value information makes such a difference. I Will try again with my own picture and i will give a shot to the portrait too. Practice is always good!
