The first three images of the assignment, before rewatching the examples by marshall (I did them 3 years ago)
Hi Tobias, I think these are quite good, but your color painting is lacking a bit of clarity in the value structure that I think would help it a bit. There is a lot of reflected light in this scene, but I think your shadow values need to be compressed to a narrower range as they are starting to enter the value range of the lit side of the face. I did a quick paintover to hopefully show a little bit of what I'm talking about. Hope this helps some, great work!
Thanks a lot Alec!
Yeah I'm at the very beginning with colors in general and haven't done many paintings as well. The goal on those studies is to get better at paintings, colors/value and heads. The one in color was giving me a realy hard time :'D.
Thanks for the paintover, looks stunning by the way. TBH I don't quite understand what you mean with a "narrower range", could you maybe rephrase the problem?

Nice work on these!
With the second one—I would put the fence in. That would make it clear what's happening with the lines on the face.
Within a picture you're telling a sort of mini story to the viewer. How did all the various color and value changes happen? Without the fence in the background, the lines on her face make no sense to the viewer. They read as scales or something.
Thanks a lot Tim,
I was mainly focusing on the face for studying heads and also painting in colors, but I could have added the fence real quick to give the overall image a small improvement. I will try to implement all environmental objects in my next studies!

They are really good. One the first one, the features are a little smaller than the reference. I feel that the second one has the left eye a little bit to much on the bright side. I think is caused by excess of orange. Otherwise, they are really cool, they became their own "characters". Love the general feeling of the first one and the shadow effect of the fence of the second one. I hope this helps! it's my first critique. The new website looks awesome!!!
Thanks a lot for the feedback! I see what you mean and will try to measure the features better in my next studies!
The past month I did those two painting studies and would like to get some feedback.

Hey! I did the "Figure Drawing Fundamentals" a few months ago and still do gestures and other studies for warm up's. And now after the website got such a cool update I wanna share some of them here and would be happy for feedback! When doing gestures I do 18x 30s, 12x 45s, 6x 1m and 3x 2m intervals.
