added comment inDemo - Learning to Sketch from Observation
After watching the demo. Feedback welcome!
I decided to copy Kan Liu for these. I really like the how everything in each composition feels very gestural
I'm happy with 1 and 2, but not so much 3. That seems to be a pattern with me. I think it's the close-to-the-finish-line feeling, but It's also just hard to maintain the same level of focus when repeating an exercise multiple times.

Hello,
this is a really fun project and one I think will help me improve. I took this course because I needed some guidance and a challenge. I usually draw the same things over and over again. I want to get better at drawing from imagination, and I feel this exercise will really help.
Thank you.

Hello, this is my assignment on Level 1 - pear from observation.
I used HB pencil for whites and 4B for darks. I am thankful for any feedback and criticism.
I really like the photo you've taken and your drawing captures it well. The only thing that stands out as wrong is that you've made the top of the pear dark, when it's actually the brightest part. The light is shining straight down.
You've also made the top half a bit long, but if you told me that was deliberate exaggeration I would believe you, since I do quite like it.

I'd appreciate any feedback.
My 3rd pear, which took a few hours. I'm happy with my impovent in some areas, particularly my control when shading. I pressed too hard on some of the dark parts, but when I did the last pear I couldn't control my strokes at all. They were more like uncontrolled twitches. I've been practicing maintaining control throughout the movement and I think it's really paying off.
I'm less happy with my shadow shapes. When blocking out my intitial shadow shape I made some choices I regretted, but had to try and make work.
Here are my list of things to work on from the critique:
1. Proportions
2. Flat values
3. Simple shapes
4. Shape design (not symetrical)
5. Rythms
6. Make sure values cover the appropriate range e.g. shadow is dark enough
7. Can choose own value scale e.g. 4 light plus 1 shadow (Still just 5)
Edit: Looking at the photo now, I think my dark halftones are too dark. They look more like part of the shadow family.

I Spent about 45 minutes on the vr girl before rewatching the video and seeing how much less detail Stan included. For the other two I spent less than 15 minutes, wich seems more in line with the intent of the exercise, though it's hard to find the line between a quick drawing and a half-assed drawing.

I think a halfassed drawing is pretty easy to spot, though it looks different for everyone. An artist can be very technically skilled and not think a single thought while drawing to produce a halfassed drawing. It's defined by lack of intention. If you draw with the mindset that each line is a thought expressed on the page, even if you are just starting to learn how to draw, it shows.
These turned out awesome! It's clear you are drawing with intention. Your lines have great energy. Thanks for sharing and for your thought provoking comment.

Attempt 2 after watching the demo, and attempt 3 after watching the critique. I think there's clear improvement in the snails, but not so much the boots. Things I took away from the critique were:
1. Visualise the line on the page. Don't focus on your pencil.
2. DON'T just copy. Choose lines based on their effect, as well as how closely they match the reference.
3. Think about the specific type of curve. Where is it more/less active.
4. Draw envelopes to help with placement.

oh my! My favorite assignment! So, I'm a huge fan of the manga D.Gray-man by Katsura Hoshino and I looove Hoshino's style! it evolved through the duration of the series but I always loved it especially her earlier drawings...
So here are three copies/studies I did from her art, the last one I did using pencils and then I scaned it and made it bigger using a light table to put it in color using COpic markers... It clearly was a study on using markers and I've learned so much and enjoyed it a lot!

I really struggled with this one. I had a few tries on my own and wasn’t happy with them. After watching the demo videos, I tried again and was a little happier with the results, but I see all of these other submissions and they’re SO good that I get discouraged. I’ve always wanted to draw better, but it has always eluded me.
I think you're being too hard on yourself. There's some really nice shapes and lines here and there's clear improvement from one drawing to the next. I particularly like your boots.

Any and all feedback is welcome!
This was hard. For the snail I planned it out in pencil then went over with a fineliner, but I wondered if that was missing the point of the exercise, so I tried to do the boots in just 1 take. I did still draw some guidelines and even then ended up being quite messy though.
Edit: to be clear I did allow myself to erase. I just didn't draw with the assumption that I'd follow up with a clean pass.

I think I understand it. I just need to do it better/more accurately. Please point out anything I'm doing wrong.
