Wow. This was humbling. I attempted to take it up a notch by studying Albrecht Durer. I love the way he uses line to create volume. It was very challenging for me to attempt this at the skill level I'm at with line.

As promised, here is my second attempt at 1-point perspective room but build from imagination this time. Completely done free hand without using ruler. To suggest the horizon.. There's a line suggestion outdoor. Critiques are highly welcomed.

Wibble, I feel you need to check your measurements his face is wider than the drawing, that’s the first place I would go.

Studies on lineweight of my favourite artists Aaron Blaise and Josh Hunter Black. With these Aaron's drawings I specially like how the lines express so much movement (as these drawings were made to be animated) and how they flow so beautifully, specially in the lions mane. I also noticed just how much he masters the squish and stretch effect (mouth area) that I tried to replicate but it still isn't as expressive as his. I think I was a bit stiff with the first lion study (growling pose from the side) but I found more of the flow of the lines with the other two. With Josh's sketches I noticed how much form and 3D effect they give, at some areas almost like it's shaded. I also noticed he hasa lot of lines which are darker and harder on one side and softer and lighter on the other and I'm not quite sure how he achieves this. Any critique is appreciated! :)

2023/10/11. Good evening everybody. Here's another assignment I made for the course I'm taking about backgrounds design and concept. I tried to imitate the instructor and I think it's a decent result. Thanks and good night!

My 1 point perspective of a kitchen
Reply
Connie
Here is a kitchen with an impractical sink. (Level 1) I wasn't too creative with the sink, just stuck it in the corner. This assignment was difficult without a ruler. My lines are way off of being straight or plumb. I'm off to work on the level 2 assignment.

This is a work in progress. I initially posted it in the level 1 but it is better here (I deleted it there). In June I was in the long room in Trinity College in Dublin and was impressed. And it is a fantastic library for one point perspective. However it is my intention to add an arcade to it in the second hall. I scanned it to continue digitally in GIMP, because this drawing on paper is only on A5 paper and it was becoming too messy. So this is a work in progress... but the intention is the level 2 with the arcade in the back... When finished digitally I shall add it here, but it may not be in time for the critiques.

I really got into this exercise, I think it does suit my nature the slow painstaking process of measurements and then getting a drawing I can be pleased with :) But I have to take Stan’s advice and try do these quicker because now it’s probably a 4h job with taking photo every step of the way to overlay it over the reference and check myself. Will try next one with only one feedback mid way.

A few more tries with these little dog portraits. I tried to vary the shapes and proportions. It's still going to take a lot of work to make the expressions more fun (more expressive eyes and mouths with interesting design)

Still playing with shapes here; trying to give the animal more character, cuteness by exaggerating size of feet, eyes etc.

Would really appreciate some feedback on these. 3 things I’m really struggling with: 1. Skating feels jagged. How do I avoid having harsh corners? 2. My light and medium lines look really similar. 3. The trace the ruler lines are really thick and dark, not crisp like others I have seen. I’m losing a lot of definition, and then can’t tell how accurate I’m being. I know practice will help with all of this, but any feedback that can help me correct some of these things while I practice would be amazing. All of these were done with a 2B pencil. Thanks!

I have similar issues, my lines used to be too dark, my problem was pressing to hard with pencil to paper so lightened up but now my lines are a tad too light , a work in progress, hth. Try lightening up your press
