Totally freeform practice ... Just pushing clay around with no armature (no pelvic tilt). Totally out of proportion but good learning. Played around with some texture and different clays. Fun.

The brown one ended being a good study on primary forms and gesture. So, I added some secondary forms (abs, breasts, clavicle) but then lost those exaggerated forms when I started trying to refine and soften them. I got lost on the location of the obliques between among the ribs and armpit but Im happy withe the whole pec, breast, armpit, clavicle transitions. Good learning.

Enjoying your posts Viktors. Keeping me motivated to actually follow the course like I should be doing rather than jumping around. Looks real nice.
Issues encountered...Trouble transitioning from pelvis to ribs; lost the right knee bend when twisting wire armature; armature hips too wide, running into wire (Tall and thin is I think what AJK suggested)

Currently starring: Me, spiraling. The lip study board? Gone. Obliterated in a fit of artistic rage. Clay carnage. I am deeply stuck on lips, eyelids, nose, eyes, cheeks, fat pads,...somewhere between “what is anatomy” and “please someone just guide my hands like I’m a baby deer learning to sculpt". This study board is what the whole head sculpture thing is all about! If anyone has hints, hacks, voodoo spells, or emotional support chisels, I am all ears (and now… half a face). Drop your wisdom. Or wine. Either works. Attached some sketches of my reference images. Ugh.
I think I probably started too big. AJK's mantra keeps ringing in my mind... "start thin". Thank you Roger Dial for your post. Thats instructive for sure.

Happy with my first Pelvis too. The 11.5 inch armature is smaller/daintier than I thought it would be. I used the lower half of a botched wire armature for this. It's not perfect but it feels like progress....Thank you AJK! Inspirational.

Hello, Im not an artist but I have a vision of working with clay sculpture for the rest of my days. I thoroughly enjoy Andrew's online courses. I wish I could attend in person and get some pro tips. The struggle continues but Im happy with my first Lumis and found cheap lamps for $1.50 US at Good Will with missing shades that make awesome head armatures and are fun to display. It's not perfect but it's a start.
