Asked for help
I'm looking for some suggestions on how to keep your studio space organized. I come home from work and don't have the energy to work on a "real" painting so I will pick up a brush or pencil and play with color or technique. This keeps me moving forward. But I end up with so many piles of paper/paintings that I'm overwhelmed with them. They aren't finished but they have possibilities. I am a very organized person and I am not a keeper, I toss a lot of stuff. I am wondering if anyone has some tips on this chaos I have created?

The angles and measurements are off. Try working on just one of those photos, concentrating on getting all the features blocked in before you do any shading. Post that sketch so you can get feed back sooner. Watch more then just the beginning videos on the Loomis Method, there is a great deal of info about angles and measuring of the features that will help you.

Thanks, yes, there are a lot of proportion and measuring issues. I’m only 2 months in, so I think that will come with more practice. I’m working on it. Slowly. Thanks for the feedback.

Simplifying an outdoor scene is the most difficult challenge I face when I paint outside. Tips needed.

I feel like I've been held back from really exploring plein air by the equipment. Doesn't hold things at the right height or angle, not enough space to efficiently carry my tools. Do you have any advice or recommendations to address this? Or, should I take the James Gurney route and make my own modifications to my setup?

I have a very streamlined set up for Plein Air. I agree with Stan, learn to condense your gear to fit in a backpack. I want to be able to have my hands free as I walk or hike into the area that I am going to paint. I paint with several people that use a tote with wheels but they are often limited to roadside views.
