I'm drawing for fun and trying to get better at it. I'm not pursuing an art career in whatever form.

My first line study I tried a drawing by Rembrandt. And that was very fun to do. Proportions are as always a problem for me. Getting the lines look right is also very difficult (they are scratchy). What did i found in this drawing: -Almost no straight lines -the tapering gives lot of sense of depth/distance -the light comes from the left and there are thinner llines there (and a bit lighter) -shadows are mostly made by thicker lines -there is accent on the faces for importance -the dress is not as dark as I expected, specialy at the feet (I did this to dark) What do I like in this drawing: The variety of the llines so that i keep discovering new ways to draw lines.

Pfweeewww, this was difficult but fun to do. FIrst I had to find a drawing and I hear Proko talk on his podcast about Norman Rockwell. After a short search I found this realy nice drawing of Rockwell that I realy like. What did I found out in this drawing: -The sudden contrast in lines from the trouser downwards. -The trouser draws lot of attention, dark iines, some very straight lines ( in contrast with the upper body which is curved) (the shoes also draw a lot of attention) -The T-shirt is very subtly drawn, very light lines and gives sense of the light coming form above -Subtle thin/light lines can still give a good sense of form (especialy in the T shirt) -The lines of the book are not as dark as I would expect them to be -The lines of the legs are not as dark as I would expect them to be. They are in the shadow and are in my opinion lighter than the trouser. -Not al lines are one contiunuous line, there are sometimes "gaps" in it. -Most lines are even in thickness (not muts tapering) What do I like about this drawing: Round lines and straight lines give a nice tension and certainty of movement by the boy that is depicted ( I realy llike that)

Tried to gesture draw and its really fun to do and a nice change from the basic drawing course that Im following. Still lot of practice needed on my side but Im quit pleased with this attempt. :-)

The figures do read nicely.

This was a fun exercise, not watching out for proportions :-). Never realized the difference it could make and invites to experiment with this.
Tommy Pinedo
Yes! I liked that Mr. Proko switched it up this time :)

A bit the strange to notice that the one which I thought would be the most difficult of the tree was the easiest. Certainly not perfect but this was my first try, Life is full of surprises.
Paul
This one was more difficult than the penguin. After my 8th attempt I thought its enough for me today, I need to come back to this one later to attempt it an other time again. For now this is whats achieveable for me. Need more practice.

Don't knock what you've done, that's very good @Paul But, I completely get the "oof, that's enough for today" feeling. :)
Paul
This penguin was pretty difficult for me (picture is the 6th attempt). Not a straight line in it, only curves. Also sketching is more difficult than I thougt. Now I know where to work on.

The csi assigment was pretty fun, but difficult. Constantly needed to correct incorrect proportions and inaccuracies. But you have to stop somewhere. Definitely going to do this more often as an exercise. Now I'm going to watch te demo of this exercis and find out (hopefully) what went wrong.
Paul
Before and after watching demo. Its difficult to get the proportions en the gradiants right (and consistent). Need more practice. This is a very usefull exercise.

I'm just a beginner but even I can see the 'after' is much better! Nice work.

First exercise and a difficult one. I had a hard time with " shading" with pencil in overhand grip (poor control). I am used to the grip for writing. And when i looked I exaggerated the detail and neglected the bigger shapes. I need to give this exercise another try (or two)
