So I feel pretty comfortable with the simplified one, two, and three point perspective with simple boxes that have parallel sides and 90 degree corners. Will this course go further into more complex shapes? Like what if the box twists as it recedes or tapers as it comes toward you or curves?

Curious if there will be more to the class? It’s been a couple months since the last post as far as I can see. I’ve been enjoying it so far and I’m eager to learn more. I understand that things come up and delays can occur, but is there any update on when we might see another lesson?
Never mind. I found an update on Jon's profile page. @Jon Neimeister I hope the move went well and the new job is everything you hoped for. Looking forward to more lessons when you are able to get to it. Thanks for everything so far.

How do people get photos without shadows on their paper. Seems no matter what I do, I end up with something casting a shadow.
Great drawing! And luckily this problem has an easy solution. All you need is a strong (preferably white) direct light source. Before I had my ring light, I would just flip a lamp over and use it as a spotlight. Here’s two example pics, in the first picture I just used my ceiling light. In the second one I used my ring light which I had set up about 1 1/2 feet above and to the right of my piece. Didn’t matter what other lights were on, because none of them could compete with the brightness of the ring light.

Tape it to a board and take a picture of it when you’re holding the board vertically. Nice drawing!
forget the shadow, this is great, so detailed and realistic. I would be happy to hand this in.
You need a light source that is much stronger than your ceiling light or strong enough that you can switch off ceiling light. This light source needs to be directed straight onto your paper and below your camera/phone….voila, no shadows! Try your camera flash with light off as a first solution…

Simplifying is hard indeed. Also I found that even using a paper under my hand the 2B and 4B pencil still smudged. The whole thing took about 3 hours, spread out over a few days. I feel like I am close, but still missing something.
Just started the demonstration video and realized that I totally forgot we were only supposed to use straight lines. Oops.

Having fun with the course. I also need to invest more time in background practice. But it is definitely cool learning how this technique allows to quickly make changes to all sorts of things.

So I started with the line work, which isn’t attached, but then made the clipping layer for the figure. I added layers for what I saw as the occlusion shadows, and the background. Then each color got a layer. I then added layers for cast shadows and the basket texture. I added an overlay layer where I tried to push the lights and darks a little and introduce some coolness to the shadows and some warmth to the light. I added a soft light layer with some highlights, then a layer to add some more reds and pinks to the skin. Then an add layer to make some shine, and finally a color layer with some orange and blue over the background.
I did find myself wondering exactly how to tell the difference between occlusion shadows and cast shadows. Also I wonder if there is a trick to changing things after you have a bunch of layers. Like if I want to shift the pose a bit or say move the arm. Then do I just have to update every layer? Or if I want to liquify the face a little to shift the expression. Is that best to flatten it and then liquify? Or is it best to just repaint layers so I can maintain the structure?
