This is how I usually grip my pencil, I feel it works better for me than the overhand grip. Maybe I’m just giving up too easily but I never hand a problem with using it and it work for the most part. However I would like some criticism on what I can do to improve it.

like others have mentioned the main thing is to stay loose regardless of how you hold your pencil. The value of the overhand grip with charcoal is it allows you to stay loose, and gives you better control over your linework. You can go from broad lines to fine ones more easily than a normal grips. For certain drawing tools (pens, digital) it may not even be possible to use overhand, and those methods normally have different means of line design. Just remember to stay loose and gestural

I like them. Although I do believe the drawings are more structure/volume related than gestural. I'm pretty new to drawing, so I know it's really hard to capture all the volumes in a minute (at least for me it is), I would recommend following the Proko gesture video and then finding the gesture examples in Michael Hampton's book. I believe in the beginning of the book he has a few rough sketches where the anatomy isn't really defined too much. I think that would be a good example of gesture sketches

that looks good! Especially the heads. Heads are tricky for me, I need to practice more

Hello everyone! here are my 2-minute gesture studies. This is Day 2 and 3. Also, some of these sketches might not look complete. that is because I keep running out of time before I can finish them ;-; Sharing some tips to finish them quickly while still maintaining quality will be greatly appreciated! If you have any advice on what I can improve on, please do tell me in the replies. Thank you for your time and have a blessed day! (P.S I'm very sorry for the bad photo quality)

I'm pretty new to drawing myself and I'm not that good at gesture, but I think going slower might be helpful. It helps me when I'm practicing at least. It really helped me to slow down, focus on getting the relationship between body parts right, and curve dramatically. If I don't finish a gesture drawing in the time limit, I'm fine with it as long as I'm focusing on getting the big pieces curved correctly and not focusing on the details. The more I practice, the more I'll (hopefully) be able to finish within a time limit. Also, you have a lot of great curves and shapes in your drawing, which means you're doing a good job observing the unique shapes of the models. However, I think some of those curves may be more anatomy related than gesture related. For the limbs, it helped me to focus more on where the arms and legs were going, instead of focusing on the shapes of the leg.
