Decided to challenge myself a bit. I did three warm up thumbnails, 1 from memory with just a glance at the reference, one from memory but after studying the reference for 1 minute, then the final one by looking at the reference. after this I moved onto doing the big piece from reference. I feel like the halftones and light values could be better but I’m still happy with it!

The shading looks so well! And you recognise that, Keep up the good work!

This was a lot of fun! I tried to do inverse tones on two of the images but my brain kept getting confused trying to remember that shadows are now the lightest value and vice versa haha. It was my first time trying markers too. They definitely stop you from going too heavy into the detail so it was nice to use both mediums and strike a balance in this project. I only have a limited amount of markers so i had to take my best guess with the values. Overall I think number 1 and 4 are my best.

Very creative! The colors are great!

This was funner than I thought I’d be but also harder! I enjoyed it though. I did two pictures with just two values and then repeated them with three. there’s some proportion errors, especially in the top right but I tried to correct it with the one underneath. I couldn’t get the clouds to look right in the bottom right so I’m going to attempt that again and try to fix it. I'm happiest with the bottom left, i think thats probably my strongest piece. I used a 6B, 6H and 3H pencil. great project!

I’ve been solely digital doing this course so it’s been nice to use traditional media again. Pencil on paper feels so nice! took me a hot minute to get back into traditional but I’m quite happy with my shading and values. shading the darks was definitely easier than lights, I think because there’s more room for error? I do wish I’d have used a less textured paper though.

Wow this was very challenging but I feel like I got a lot out of this project. It's definitely been one that has forced me to think a lot more. I had to draw the object a few times to cement the forms and angles into my head before trying them from memory or another angle, which helped so much. I drew the anvil and red wheelbarrow from memory (corrected the wheel after) then drew the blue wheelbarrow from memory and at a different angle. The sledgehammer and wrench were quite challenging so I drew them from a different angle with a reference open of their original position. I was dreading this project because I know my visual memory is lacking but I ended up quite enjoying it!

This was challenging but fun. I did boxes 1-14 from imagination and then tried doing it with references from 15-18.

Tried to do a few more grounded pieces of gestural architecture. I’m really struggling with constructing the roofs I just can’t seem to get them to look right and I’m not sure how to fix that.

It might help to bring a little bit of structure into these. You wanna keep up that really nice gesture you have here, but think about building these out of simple shape blocks. Don't be afraid to use construction lines if that helps you make sense of the shapes.

Went a bit mad with this one. I was having a lot of fun with it so I decided to play around with different brushes and such. Definitely went heavy on the distortion though haha. I tried to draw more grounded architecture afterwards but kept getting frustrated with pitched roofing so any tips in that department are welcome too!

re-did this project and I'm happy with the attempt. I feel like my cross contour understanding has slightly improved since my last piece- which is always encouraging. This is a fun project and one I'll definitely practice a lot.

Really nice improvement!

This is so cool! Well done!

This was so fun! Really enjoyed trying to make a story scene with them and fit their poses around that.

These are wonderful ginger root people. This is a really good place to add some story and character design. Nice work. I notice a few areas where you push the cross contours too much, and others where you don’t push it enough. Think about the different forms as cylinders or tubes with rubber bands wrapped around them. Maybe even wrap a rubber band around a can or bottle or something and use that for reference to understand this 3d concept. Keep playing with it. These are really cool character ideas. Overall, great stuff 👍
