Asked for help
Warhammer 40k Death company, these guys are dressed in black, so i wanted the enviourment to be a 5/10 grey, background a bit lighter to create a false negative effect and make the marines pop out, there will be gunfire lights which i plan to abuse to exaggerate the silhouette's of the marines, critique;s? PS: this is just a sketch, i just got some values in to get a better feel for the composition

I'm noticing 2 problems while trying to figure this out. 1, I am having a hard time finding the forward to back tilt of the pelvis, not sure what to do about that. 2, After doing the gesture I have to add volume to make it 3d for the boxes. I'm not seeing the whole volume in the gesture stage. Any help would be great.

hello @Dylan Gabriel your doing nice work but try to exaggerate everything, it's gonna make it easier for you to feel the gesture if you do, the reason you are confused about the tilting is because you are confused where the body parts go on the boxes, i added some examples, again, try to exaggerate. if you dont see how to add volume to the gesture then thats perfectly normal, we all had problems with that at this stage, try doing the reverse, try to mannequinize a model and add gesture after on top of the form, its a nice practice to find the balance, your eyes will get used to it eventually, hope this helps, good luck and keep up the good work!

Hi guys, this is my current anatomy study, I would appreciate your feedback, I know I still have a lot of mistakes, but I am having a hard time identifying what they are.

@Francisco Martin Hey nice work, but your obliques aren't showing trough, it just looks like he has a massive bone chest, the obliques go into the saw area of the the Saturius, which you defined pretty well, added a picture to what i mean, hope its clear enough, good work!

@othmane Nice work, keep at it, these sessions will help you loads the more you do them. when you are done with them try to check your proportions tho, the heads are off a bit, and i suggest you start with a round primitive to block in the pelvis and rib cage, its easier to get used to the proportions. i also suggest adding more S curves when drawing woman, i made you a cheat sheet for the proportions and it includes an example for S curves. Keep up the good work! hope to see more soon!

Back again with gesture. It's really exciting! Still confused on how to exaggerate the pose. I hope that I can get a feedback.

hello @Raymond Xu , try drawing the form to your gesture, it's otherwise kinda difficult to critique your work, the gesture looks fine, hope to see more of your work soon ;)

Hi, I am new to this course and I did some gesture practice. I would like to have some feedback and to know my mistakes.

Hi there, while some could argue that this is not a gesture, it's actually very hard to gesture a simple standing pose, as people tend to use the body's motion as lines for the gesture. But you can also use the body's S curves's flow to create gesture, this can really help with a static pose. check the image where the S curves are looking from behind. hope this helps, good work ;)

I am in love with the classic painted Hollywood movie poster aesthetic, especially horror ones. It's amazing how busy, bright and colourful they were compared to their modern counterparts! So, I've decided to take every artist's nightmare and the story of my life essentially, and turn it into a classic scary flick. Enjoy! I'm sure you all can relate ;P Painted digitally from scratch.

Hello! I've tried the assignment, doing 3 poses from a pose website. I found that not every pose is good for this exercise - seems like a lot of poses can just barely be exaggerated further, and also, it's hard to make an exagerrated pose not look stiff. I'll be grateful for any critique, I'm trying to figure out what to focus on, what to do to improve (in partivular, make the poses less stiff and more realistic)

Hi there, the reason you are having a hard time exaggerating a pose is because when you are focusing on the gesture you are forgetting the form and vice versa, i recommend studying bridgman, it would help if you have knowledge of anatomy before you study him but its not 100% necessary, if you have proko's anatomy course you can just use the 3d models to figure out the muscle shapes with the Bridgman drawings, or just find some 3D models online on the sketchfab website, but if you want a detailed guide on anatomy... Stan's course is probably one of the best ones to get. i drew one of your models to show you what i mean with Bridgman's results. Draw one of Bridgman's drawing, and then close the book and try to draw it yourself without looking, then open the book and compare your work with his and correct it, if you made to many mistakes then retry it after u noted your mistakes. Hope this helps, good luck ;) PS: Use contraposto, make sure the pelvis box and rib cage box are not symmetrical, it makes for interesting poses

Hi David (and stan), what are the most important rules to define a female and male face and their features? what are the main differences?
