My submission for this week’s assignment. After studying the three, overall I think I still need to improve on the brushwork especially the red sphere. Somehow I could not get it right and not sure what I can do to improve it. Glad to have done this, open for critiques!

Hello! This is for this week's assignment on Procreate. Tried not to use the color picker, choosing straight from the color palette. The red ball becomes slightly desaturated. Open for critique.

Nice work Ian! Yes, keep practicing finding those colors and values

Hello! This is my take on sketching gestures and figures based off the references from the video. My lines can get messy on my first try of sketching the gesture, so I reduce the opacity then sketch on top of it with a new layer (even if that would mean it’ll take longer to finish).

For drawing one for the first time, it's really fun!

For this assignment I tried combining the ape with…. frogs. The first stage has helped me explore and study the animals loosely without worrying too much to make it like the actual reference picture. The last picture is the finished design. Will definitely implement the exploration stage for more creatures in the future. Thank you David for the course and the feedback!

Super fun combo- smart choices. I love the final. I think you could push the length of the arms to be more ape dominant. And maybe using frog feet but give them the dexterity and spacial relationship of apes- so can latch on its environment. The exploration sketches need to be more extensive. Loose is good but they lack the information needed to make the proper design choices. I think you did a great job in this course. See you in the next one.

Sticking to the combination of apes and bats. There is the thought of always wanting to follow the exact anatomy of the two animals, but for these I tried to make a variety of shapes and proportions. A big learning curve for this one as well.
David Colman
I think these are great- keeping the shapes big and clear . Now try to be more structurally sound- they have volume but try to find the objective forms allowing you to exploit those in various ways while maintaining the integrity of the source

These are my breakdowns that I managed to do. It is eye opening to be able to study these instead of usually doing human breakdowns. I look forward to study more of these soon.

LOVE that you are breaking your mold. I think you could go a little further to learn even more Nice job on the cave troll- alot of weight but then on Bernie Wrightsons Swamp Thing it becomes a little too ambiguous . Try to simplify from the final look model Each nook and cranny doesnt have to be caught in the breakdown just the objective forms

This assignment is challenging but also really fun once getting the hang of it a little. As observing from the footage, I couldn’t get the gesture right most of the time. Throughout some of these sketches I tend to make small but many strokes in my drawings, that is why it can be too messy at times. I’ll keep working on this along with attempting the draw from memory for the next one.

More studies on the first image, while the second image is through imagination. Really glad to have made the attempt, also surprised with how it turned out.

Here is my assignment. I tried to make it loose while maintaining the muscle placement, however it kind of feels stiff at times. Definitely would take more time studying this section. My take of doing these starts from gesture, overall form, then placement of the muscles objectively.
David Colman
fantastic observation. and analysis.. now I want you to see the muscles as rhythms.. they should flow together...loosen up

Here's some chimpanzee, gorilla, and orangutan skulls in different angles, along with doing more skeletons. I also tried to do the one while standing up, turned out to be a whole new challenge. For these attempts I try not to use too much erasing and see how it will look like after putting down the overall form and then the details. Feedback is very much appreciated.
David Colman
GREAT approach. I love your challenging yourself. I would like to see more objective volumes on the skulls, drawing through the forms. Also try to introduce more boxy forms especially with bones
