Asked for help
Hi, I found this drawing "Study for Mucius Scaevola Before Porsenna by Charles Le Brun" on website https://finearttutorials.com/guide/famous-drawings/ The light appears from top left on the upper body. But why is the right side of the torso in the shadow? there is no obstacle.
I combined lines with different thicknesses and values, as in the demo.

The light may be coming at a steeper angle than you might think. His back muscles appear to be shading the right torso. It gives you the feeling of a natural curve between the rib cage and the hips.

I really enjoyed this challenge. I think I did a fair job of simplifying both subjects, perhaps I added too much detail in the boots and in the snail's skin.
I can see that I need to work on smoothness of line and better command of the pencil. I am hopeful that these shortcomings improve with repetition and a better eye.
I welcome any and all feedback. Thanks!

Hello!
I am fairly new to art and drawing, my primary interest is in ornate penmanship/calligraphy from the late 1800s. I am diving into drawing to help train my sense of proportion and perspective, in order to write more accurately.
I've found drawing and art to be quite fun and am looking forward to engaging with a new hobby.
As a relative beginner, I welcome any and all feedback for this submission.
Thanks!
