I have wondered what paper Stan uses for his tutorials. I know his talent and hard work are the main reason for his success but I also figure he isn't going to Hobby Lobby and buying just any sketch paper. Is there a specific paper that pairs well with different mediums? Conte specifically but I would like to know what successes people tend to have and why they go back to that paper/canvas? It can be hard to explore without breaking the bank.

Asked for help
Hello everyone! First time posting. Started to get into Drawing through Proko middle of summer last year. I feel like I get close to likeness but missing some little pieces. Also I’ve had to work from a picture on my phone. I think I get too excited to render and don’t really know how to pace myself when doing it. This was done with the conté 1710b. I think the crayon makes me a little anxious when approaching white paper. I feel like I erase and leave more marks than needed. I would appreciate any advice on shading and getting smoother rendering. I also am never sure on when to silhouette the image or what can pull the image together. I added two of the drawings to see what could be done better at the end.
