I really like the clean flowy lines in the last couple of pages!

Some poses from a life drawing session yesterday. I found it trickier to find rhythms from these poses. Line quality continues to be elusive… I drew on a clipboard without erasing, and kept committing to lines way too early. Will make a note of this for next session 🤔

Did level 1. I’ve done some life drawing, but I never really considered looking at rhythms across the entire body and my proportions were always pretty loose, so I tried focusing on those. I'll also need to focus on line quality next session...

These are super cool. I like how you connected lines across the figure. These seem to get more free as they go on, the last one is my favorite. The line running up from his leg to the neck is a really good idea.

Attempts after watching the demos and critiques. My head hurts from trying to internalize everything, my line quality definitely could be better, and I feel like I went the other way of adding too many unnecessary details this time. I'll give this more tries 👀

Another shot at some of these

I've been feeling that my drawings have been stiff lately, so I tried to be looser. Will watch the demos next!

Third attempt. I laid things in pencil so I could erase, and later went over it with conte for visibility (I forgot to outline the eye sockets though). I also stepped back from time to time to see if something felt wrong. I'm happier with this compared to my previous attempts, though I still have an issue with not tilting the eyes enough and it's pretty clear now that I'm looking at it again. I eyed the hands and it shows. (photo from Getty Images/ATP Tour)

It's been a while since I drew with conte, drew this on 18"x24". I'll give this another try before watching the demo -- I need to take a step back and spend more time on the lay in haha

Tried again (image from Braschler/Fischer) -- this took about an hour and a half and I rushed the end a bit. Measuring everything out tests my patience and my shaky arms don't help...

Level 1, I feel some of these could be simplified more so I'll give this another shot after watching demos. References downloaded from pexels.

Master study from William O'Connor, this was surprisingly fun to do! Some observations: - The focus of the drawing is the mouth, which is more thickly outlined than the back of the head - Heavier outlines, thinner insides - He sketches out light flow lines throughout the head (most noticeable on the left side), which he then placed details over - There's a bit on the bottom of the lower jaw where he added weight due to it being in shadow

The first pic is an admittedly rushed study from William O'Connor again. I was mainly trying to figure out why he contour shaded some parts (like the foot) and why he hatched some parts without contours (like the tail). I ended up thinking that the straight hatching was used for larger forms completely in shadow, whereas the contoured parts were more visible in light. And then for fun I looked at one of Fujiyama Monta's works and tried to apply what I studied 😅

I drew the croc with the light and shadow method after watching the demo a couple of times. This was definitely a lot trickier than the hierarchy method 😅 I had to redo this once.
