Hi, I’m Chiara, a self taught artist looking for ways to improve :)
Iiiik
It took me quite some time to achieve a smoother motion compared to the square forms I was using at first but I think that I'm finally starting to get a grip at this exercise. Should I move on to the Mannequinization exercise or give this one a few more tries to solidify my practice of it? Any constructive criticism is very much welcome as always!

Great start! I can see that you tried to put more motion into it, however there are a few points you can improve. Your boxes are sometimes too thin. Even if this is a simplification of the torso, we still have to think about what we’re actually trying to draw. Our rib cages aren’t as thin as you drew them. I think it can help if you remember the bean exercise. Also the perspective of some boxes seems a bit off. Take your time and build a strong foundation. The key here is to understand how forms behave in space and how they relate to each other. If you build a strong foundation, the next exercises will help you to improve even more.

From what I see, I think you have been familiar with body landmarks, and so far it's great. Which landmarks do you have difficulties with? Landmarks are pretty straightforward, so once you know the basics you'll be able to recognize it with ease. I have sketched over one of your drawing to show you the general landmarks we normally use in human body.

i think that I have a general understanding of where they are but I feel like I’m not using them efficiently enough while drawing. I probably just need to practice it more till it becomes intuitive. Thanks for the feedback and the great sketch, I will use it to study and improve!

Hello, I’m having a bit difficulties on how to use landmarks while drawing. Feedback appreciated
@winterpencil
This is by far the toughest exercise so far in this course for me. Any tips are welcome !

Good job! It’s great how you really try to break down the animals in simple shapes and I think you have a good understanding of how they relate to each other. The one thing I would point out is that your drawings feel a bit cramped and stiff. The forms you drew are pretty rigid, but remember, you can modify them by twisting them etc. , that will give your drawings more gesture and life. And I would suggest to draw a bit bigger, that will help you to give your forms more volume. But you’re on a good path, keep it up!

I know it's just one, but this particular topic is really hard for me and I have a very busy schedule. So I'd like to know your thoughts on this before I make corrections and attempt more renders on structure.

I think that you’re on a good way! You’re trying to think in 3d forms and this kind of thing takes a lot of practice. I would suggest that you push it even more. Some parts of your drawing feel like you copied the lines you saw. Really think of what form fits best and draw the form out. I’ve drawn over your picture to show you what I mean. This exercise is really more about understanding how forms interact each other and less about the final result. You can try and trace forms over photos and try and recreate them on paper, this will help you understand how you need to approach these kind of drawings. Hope this helps!

Hey @Varun Tulsyan, great drawing! What makes you think that there are mistakes in the drawing? I’m not so advanced to give you detailed critique about anatomy but from what I see it looks good to me. It’s shaded well and the anatomy seems good. Keep it up! Maybe you have more drawings you can show so that you can see if those mistakes are recurrent and what you can do in general about it.

I think that I’ve grasped and internalised the concept of the bean but I’m still posting these photos to see if something can be improved (probably yes). Even feedback about tiny details is welcomed :)

Nice work @Chiara Benedetto! Hands are difficult for everyone! I think the biggest issue with these is that the entire metacarpal area (the palm area) seems too small compared the finger lengths. The palm length (metacarpals) is about the same as the fingers (middle finger actually), and it looks like many of yours have that area smaller than the finger length. It is difficult to tell based on the angles of some of these, but something seems off about the proportions. Just something to watch out for. I hope this helps!

Oh right! Now that you point it out I see this issue too, I will pay more attention to proportions from now on. Thank you !

This looks like a great start to hands, I personally have been putting it off, but something that I notice is the proportion of the palm to the fingers, you might want to make the palm bigger or the fingers smaller. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but otherwise, you are going on a great path! Maybe in the future try to put more gesture into the fingers so it looks more natural when you are done with the simplified shapes.

Thank you for the advice! True, I was so focused with doing everything right that I forgot the proportions haha, I will pay more attention to that !

Really nice drawings! Very neat sketches and clear structure. My critique here would be that i see in your drawings that the thumb shouldnt go on a 90 degree angle againts the palm since its unatural for the thumb to be able to go that far, also i see that the thumb in your drawings are a bit too long. I like how you draw a very diverse poses of the hands! Good job!!

Thank you very much! You’re right, I didn’t pay attention to that, I will consider it in my future drawings :)

Hey adripeach! They’re a good start! For the beginning I would suggest that you focus on lines and on the flow/Movement of the gesture instead on how the figure looks like. Gestures are composed just by 3 types of lines: S- curves, C-curves and straight lines. When you do your gesture drawings try to simplify what you see using these lines and draw them confidently. It can also help to set a limit of lines you want to use. For example try to draw what you see with just 5 to 7 strokes. I hope this helps, good luck!

Hello, it’s my first time posting here. Right now I’m learning about hand anatomy and I’m practicing the simplified bones drawings. Critique is very much appreciated :)
