Hello everyone! I have been drawing everyday for a little over a year now and am seeing some progress but i'm looking to advance even further. When im not doing proko projects I will often look at pinterest and sight copy various images showcasing anatomy, fabric, etc.. and when I go to draw my own stuff without reference it's not as successful. I guess I wanted to ask if ya'll think this is a good way to study; copying various images and such. Is there a better way to try and integrate information? perhaps trying to rotate a reference or just sticking to one topic for a week or two at a time; to try and solidify the information in my head. i want to be able to draw (well) from imagination! What have ya'll found to be some good practices for studying and getting better at drawing?

From left to right, are my three attempts. I struggled too much, since I get used to rely on eyeballing to measure something( It isn't precise. I use Ctrl+T to adjust my drawings in Photoshop ). Also I am troubled by "tunnel vision". So I tried to measure in the same way as Stan  taught in the lesson, using pencil to measure. BTW, I spent lots of time on each one, 3-4 hours average or more, I believe. Maybe it was perfectionism, which made me feel bad while drawing. Critiques appreciate.

anyone else find the music levels at the start little to loud and distracting?

@John B I am listening with Bose quiet comfort 35s – Headphones. Maybe its not so much the levels but the type of music as well? like the sporadic, funky, jazzy stuff. eh not too much of an issue, really. might just be a me thing hahah.

Hey, I'm in a similar boat where extreme diligence and countless hours practicing drawing daily is showing little to no return. I'm currently taking a step back and drawing as a habit, rather than "because I should," and trying to learn more from observation. Watching another artist draw (traditionally, digital is much less helpful) with the video on mute, or reading an art book for a few days before picking up a pencil again, can help a lot. I've seen people get better quickly despite not drawing for months at a time simply because they were digesting information and knowledge during that time. Give it a try, I am too. Godspeed and good luck.

Hello everybody! So, i have been practicing drawing just about every single day for almost a year now. I usually spend 4-6 hours a day just drawing (i have a lot of time on my hands). I've bought the figure drawing course and the fundamentals course and watch youtube tutorials, too. After putting in a lot of time i'm just not seeing as much progress :( ill usually draw along with Stan and take some notes diagrams etc.. I feel like i should be a lot further than i am. I still struggle to get nice figure drawings (some times i'll get a few i am proud of) but 6-7 out of 10 times i'm not content with them). Today i saw some drawings from several months ago and got wigged out cause my studies looked similar and i noticed figures i am drawing now I have been leaving out what i studied said months ago. i'm worried i'm working with old habits and forgetting to integrate what i have gone over in the past. I know one year isn't very long in the artists journey but the amount of hours i have put in should show more progress.. ugh maybe i am being to hard on myself but over all need some advice for studying smarter instead of harder or at least commiserate with others who have had similar experiences or some wisdom to share. thank you for reading this looong post and i hope to hear from someone out there <3

I've tried to put into practice everything we've seen so far. I really wanted to draw what I thought when I saw this cat's ninja posture, so there will probably be a lot of mistakes. I started from the rough drawing until I got to the colored design. Any criticism is super appreciated! I think there's something wrong but I don't know what…

Here's my attempt at using line weight for depth.

if i may, i feel like this drawing could benefit by pulling the line weight boldness to about a third of the boat (right to left) and doing a taper to the back? if that makes sense.. it is very strong in the front but then fades to thin quite fast.. Fear not! :)

wow, this was really interesting! i know i've needed to work on my line weight and have attempted here but it still hasn't "clicked" for me. if there is anyone out there that has a greater understanding i would reeealy appreciate some feed back. I feel especially that the shadows one (center) doesn't feel quite unified? maybe this is just my subjective view but, yeah; let me know what you think! thank you so much in advance <3 these are done pre demo.. on to the next!

at first i wasn't going to do this project as i very much consider myself a beginner and was sticking to the level 1 projects but after watching Stan's imagination cramps video i felt inspired to step out of my comfort zone and stretch the observation/imagination muscle! it took about 2-3 hours but i'm glad i pushed myself! i would love some critique on my little axolotl! im still trying to understand how to properly implement line weight and the perspective of the chin was a challenge for me. anyways, would love to hear your thoughts! thank you :)

I found that staying relaxed and loose allowed me to capture this drawing a lot faster than usual! When I look at this drawing now, i can tell the perspective on the boots is a little wonky but if anyone else can see something in my blindspot please let me know, I would love some critique! thanks y'all <3

First attempt, haven't watched the demo yet. Will reattempt after watching the demonstration. I used various badgers as reference, and the mental image of the hyena's mohawk.

I especially admire the personality you have given these creatures in your designs!

Yikes 😬 that was difficult for me. It was a big jump in difficulty for me from the only using straight lines lesson. I got the snail but I don’t have confidence in my line drawing so it came out scratchy. 😕 I started the boot but was getting too frustrated so had to stop for a while. I need more practice drawing curved lines so gonna practice that for a while.

if it helps, your skill level is exactly where it should be for a beginner :) you're doing the necessary work to improve – view improvement as a byproduct not the goal.. the goal should be to sit down and practice~ although gesture drawing is a challenge in its own right, it is an incredible way to practice curved lines and other skills simultaneously, just a suggestion. i look forward to seeing your development!

Pre feedback attempts... Lots to improve on: values are not well spaced out (mainly on the pear), and proportions need work (face) , but they're ok!

This was my first Proko project! I have never drawn anything with strictly straight lines and hard edges, it was really fun and made me think of the subject in a totally different way.. anyways ~ if anyone happens to see this post it would mean so much to receive some critique! Also, I would love to create some community and keep an eye on each others work, too! (this was done before watching Stan's demo)
