I’m pushing myself to draw faces. I started with the eyes and decided to just keep going. Yet, it feels as if the face is too long. The shape also seems off. Any advice on how to fix it? Are the features in the wrong place or is the chin too elongated? Or is it something else?

Here are my Mickey Mouse hands. I used poses from photo reference, and tried to turn them into Mickey Mouse hands on my own.

Looks splendid! I thought they were drawn referencing actual Mickey Mouse hand gestures until I read your post. Amazing job.

Perspective is one of the fundamentals I struggle with the most. I never really learned anything beyond one-point perspective. So, this exercise is very challenging/frustrating for me. The rectangles are wrong, but I can't tell how to fix them. And my cylinder of the medicine bottle is too wide at the top, but that's how wide it looked to me, so I also need to train my eye. Or maybe, the top cylinder's size isn't the issue but the cross contours beneath are? I'm challenging myself to complete every assignment though, so here is my work.

Not certain which level I'm on, so I did level 1. It's my first time painting fruit digitally. I plan to come back and do level 2 as well.

Casually did my circles while listening to David Finch explain gesture drawing. I’m not certain if it’s wise to be studying both anatomy and the fundamentals at once, but here are my circles next to an anatomy quick sketch I did. I’ve taken figure drawing before, but I want to be able to create my own characters or accurate fan art. So, I’ve decided to come back to the basics to fill the gaps in my knowledge and not give up this time. Excited for this course, Stan! Your lessons are a source of encouragement.

Your classes, both here and on your site, have helped me grow tremendously. I've always struggled with the head, but after a couple days of following your How to Draw a Superhero Head class, I was able to draw heads from memory! Thank you for everything. I look forward to learning more!

I can see this exercise being beneficial when I progress to the figure drawing course. To ease into drawing, I want my first marks of a session to be playful and free from expectation. This exercise meets this criterion, but there is also an opportunity here for more consequential practice. I began page 1 with random marks and shapes, since this is how I normally begin my warmup sessions; it represents how it might look if I actually incorporate the exercise into my routine. I did use a reference to redraw the rotating figures on page 2, as the original proportions were somewhat embarrassing.

These are beautifully done. I even cracked up at the old man. Great grasp of character, proportion and foreshortening.

Here are my sketches. Excited to learn more! I should practice my measurements a bit. I accidentally squished someone’s face lol.

These were pretty fun! Working through multiple courses, so it took longer than expected. Tried to simulate permanence but ctrl z is a crippling addiction. Added some spheres for extra variety!

Slowly evolving from stick figures. Yay! These are a mix of 30 second, 1 minute and 2 minute sketches. I think drawing a circle for the joints helped tremendously. I felt less lost after I started using the joints as anchor points.

When I see him draw the gestures, I go "Okay. That makes sense." But when I try to draw, all I see is the outline and my linework feels stiff. It turns into these choppy stick figures, especially with static poses. Here are a few of my 30 second sketches. Any advice for making my gestures more fluid?
