I always enjoined creating artwork. But recently I decided to become good at it. I started with the figure drawing and character design.

Here is my 2nd attempt. This time I tried the full figure. I used one of my 20 ga wire armatures but it was too clumsy and made things a little harder. One thing about the wire armature and full figure is I don’t know where to start. How to start building the elbow joint for example. I started with the pelvis and the rib cage but then I got lost pretty quickly. The other challenge was to make sure the sculpture is balanced otherwise it doesn’t stand on its own. Also, I didn’t use any tool for this sculpture. Not that I didn’t want to, I just didn’t know how/where to use it. I would appreciate any feedback.

Hey great job! It looks like it’s coming along. I’ll go over more lessons that will talk about the actual sculpting part but for now I can say don’t worry too much about the details (like the anatomy of the elbow) focus primarily on the silhouette from whatever angle you’re sculpting and the primary forms (think cylinders, boxes, etc) and then slowly build the secondary forms like anatomy on top. It does take time and practice so keep doing the assignments! You’re doing great so far.

I made these three using a 20 ga copper wire which I already had within my hands reach. They are about 12, 7 and 5 inches. The tallest one is too flimsy so I guess I’ll make more using 14ga aluminum once I get it.

Looking great! Be sure to keep the hips a little thinner so that there’s room to add clay on the outside.

Here are pics of my $5 challenge. I accidentally purchased Soft NSP Chavant. It was a little difficult since it softened so quickly, but still doable. Also used aluminum wire and foil. I also used a wooden knife from previous ceramic work I already owned.

This is so nice. Can you post a picture of the armature as well? I’m curious to see how it works.

Hi! Here's my first sculpture. It's very cheap: my hands, kid's clay for 1,59€, wire for 1€, an orphaned chopstick and some wood stick from an ice cream. The armature was not easy to make, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to start. In the end I made it too small 😂 The clay I used is hard but flexible. Easy to handle in small pieces. There was times I just wanted to punch the whole thing but I had a good time overall !

Nice! The pinch on one side and stretch on the other side shows the gestures very well.

I’m a total newbie but I think I could more or less capture the gesture. One of the hardest part was to make the creases like where the leg connects to the pelvis or where the rib cage pushes out the skin. Also I think my foil armature was too thick. I would appreciate your feedbacks.

Hey yeah looking great. Yes the area of the upper leg moving into the pelvis is a very tricky area because of all the bony landmarks and muscle attachments on both the front and back of the body. Yeah it looks a little stocky or thick and I would try to push the gesture a little further still. Keep it up and I look forward to seeing more!

I’m very new to painting and never heard of color hormone. It feels like a mystery is solved in front of me. Thank you for this class and I’m looking forward for the next sessions. I would also appreciate any feedback or comments.
