I think you nailed it for the assignment. Nice job simplifying. My critique would be that the darkest value takes over a bit as it extends from the cast shadow to the form shadow of the pear and you lose some of form there. You could bring in some of that second darkest value to express the reflected light on the back edge of the pear and give it some more shape. Overall great job!
