LESSON NOTES
In this lesson I demonstrate how to use everything learned in Module 1 and 2 to observe reptiles. We will try and combine different kinds of form manipulation to create a fairly custom ‘mannequin’ for each reference we are studying. This will help you greatly in understanding form better and will allow you to be a lot more efficient with the references you use when designing from imagination.

ASSIGNMENTS
- Gather 3 different references from reptiles.
- Draw each reference as you see it with simplified manipulated forms.
- Rotate each reference 2 times in a different angle (for a total of 9 drawings).
I have struggled with proportions a lot for this one. But I definitely feel more confident in rotating creatures compared with the previous assignment.
Very nice job! You managed very well to rotate your reptiles in space , which is very challenging I find. I'm particularly impressed by your snake! You have a very strong vision in space!
Hello everyone! My first attempt for reptiles. very challenging! Feedback is welcome.
Thanks and have a good day!
Hi,
so I love the fact that everything is coming together. But it was challenging.
I could feel how the previous lessons with cylinders, shape manipulation and wrapping were relevant with this. Very challenging and fun!
Ambitious angles to attempt! The 2nd and 3rd views are from very angles! Looks very good to me!

Good job, make sure you don't fall in to the habit of copying what you see in the ref by drawing the 2D shapes with some contours. It's better to use a mannequin that looks less like the thing you see in the reference but has more volume and construction. Try to limit yourself to using only manipulated boxes and cylinders
I am totally aware these guys need work (I will do birds and insects but come back to reptiles and repeat module 3 until I feel more comfortable before jumping to module 4). But, yes, here there is my first attempt at the assignment.

Great attempt MSD.
I would advise you to repeat this process again and be a little more mindful of all the techniques you've learned in Module 2.
Start by recognising the simplest forms and then apply addition, subtraction, form wrapping, contour manipulation etc where you deem necessary to achieve a result that looks similar to the reference.
It helps a lot if you draw through your forms as well, to get a good sense of their volume.
Keep up the good work!
