Now that you’ve all had some time to try the first project on your own, you can watch how I do it and figure out what areas you are exceeding and struggling with. Here is my step-by-step demo on how to properly execute the first project for level 1 students.

My first one!
@cliffcreates
1st is from before the demo, 2nd is from after. I think I could have simplified it even further after watching the critique video. But happy with what I was able to produce.
@wileyriley
Drawn on iPad in Procreate :). The one with no sketched background was before watching the demo, and the other one was after. I welcome criticism! (Reposted this comment because I mistyped the old one.)

Third attempt (on left) as I followed along with the demo, first two were trying on my own - the second attempt is on the right. Each time I pull out my sketchbook, or watch a movie, I am learning a ton!

Went along with the demo. Made on iPad in Procreate.

My attempts - the first one was before watching the demo, then the second one is my attempt after watching the demo ...talk about challenging :o

I love how defined each region of value is, and understand we could spend incredibly too much time perfecting it! The only thing I might change is the contour lines on the top of the stem and the left of the pear. Perhaps playing with the value of the background would have yielded the same contrast? Great work!

Hi everyone, I gave the pear drawing a shot—twice! It was a bit tricky trying not to accidentally smudge it with my hand. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Great improvement! Love the value and definition of each shape in your second attempt. The only things I might change are a wider core shadow on the left edge, and cleaning up the dark (I will call them 4 value lines) separating the half tone from the center light near the bottom.

First without watching the demo, then after. Had the most trouble keeping the values consistent and edges clear. Worked in procreate, so the feeling for the pencil is not quite the same. I think I actually like my first try better.

My levels 1 and 2. Made before watching the demo. I guess I tried to follow the shape of the pear a little too much...
@mallowmarsh
attempted it alongside the demo. the shadows turned out a bit darker than usual tho, and the lines are quite sharp. is there a way i could tackle that?

Nice job on including an actual dark value. We can get scared to do it but that's so important to communicating a rounded form or a plane change.
