Hi everybody I would like to share with you my progression. I decided to start drawing five month ago. I studied by myself first with my favorite artists (Todd Mcfarlane, Sergio Toppi, Jean Baptiste Andreae, Moebius, juan Gimenez, Jerome Opeña and many more... i took recently some lessons with a professor and I am absolutly passionate with the draw now. Here my last work of this month, what do you think ? Do you have any artists to share here ? Love to discover new things ! (Sorry for my english i am French) All the best for you all !

Hello Tony, These artworks are amazing actually, loved them. especially the one that seems to be done in watercolors. I am not an advanced artist, but I feel something looks off in the drawing that seems to be done in graphite pencil. Maybe perspective of her upper leg, pretty normal if it's from imagination. Also I still did not properly learn hatching but I think the hatching could be improved as well. Otherwise, really nice and varied style. Great job. Best of luck!

Hi Tony! Your drawings are looking great! And to have hours of daily practice sure is a great thing, you did much better than when I was in that phase XD. If you want to bring you skills to a higher level, you can do some master studies using the exact pen&ink technique you are using right now. Could be studies of classical paintings, or comics you like. So you won't dabble in a blind way, to me at the moment you don't really have a certain direction you want to go, which is a good thing I think, then it gives you time to find out what kind of content you really like.

Thanx a lot Yiming for the advices and encouragements. I work in the basics fundamentals, form shapes volumes perspectives shadows...and you right i swin in every kind of directions when i draw some reproductions, essentialy with the styles i like the most. I have a big crush on your work, it's very impressive and i love the way you mix the comics composition, the black and Grey textures, perspectives... What's is your influences ? I like discovering new artists and it seam that we share the same styles ^^ (Moebius, Jim lee, Todd Mcfarlane, jerome Opeña, i am stuck with those guys now ^^)For now i am limited with my technics skill but i really want to have enough expérience to draw by imagination, the goal is to create my own cover album (i am a composer and i produce my own disc). I think the process is the same than music, learning the alphabet before to build phrases...so basics is the key. I saw in proko an amazing artist (steven zapata) how teach shadows in proko, i will take these lessons and i have a teacher in Bordeaux for the roots of draw. I will share my progression here, Thanx again for your encouragements and advices, all the best for you !

Hey Tony! Really nice work for a newborn in drawing! Congratulations! So, one of the most important and basic things about drawing is the study of shapes and forms. Basically, any complex subject can be drawn if you distort and combine the most basic and fundamental shapes and forms. Understanding this concept will also help you improve your shading skills. My advice would be, study the basic shapes and forms. I almost forgot, in english, the word "shape" refers to the 2D space (Circle, Triangle, Square, etc) and the word "form" refers to the 3D space (Cube, Cylinder, Sphere, etc). Sometimes that might be a little confusing, because in some latin languages it would be said something like "2D form and 3D form". And also, the study of form (3D), goes together with the study of perspective. A good perspective is what makes a form seems realistic and well drawn. Keep it up man!

Hi Alessandro Thanx a lot for your encouragements and advices ( indeed shape and form wasn't clear for me) It's what i work on now the real basics forms and shapes. Everything is new so you're right, the base is the key. i'm really attracted by ultra realism draw, comics and sophisticate compositions. Jérôme Opeña ("Seven to eternity" comics, black and white version) blew my mind. Do you know how can i aproach this Kind of style? It's really confusing for me cause i don't see the structure of his draws... if you have a clue ^^ Thanks again Alessandro, and i always look for new discovery, if you have something to share i take it. Ps : your Piston motor Jet is so cool ^^

These are quite impressive for just starting a couple months ago! It looks like some of them might be from reference and some might be from imagination? The first image of the bird (skeksis?) feels really solid and has fantastic line weight. The wolverine further down though feels a little less observed and a bit messier, but maybe that was just an earlier drawing. Overall your handling of the pencils and ink is really sophisticated, you've got a good handle on your tools and are doing a great job managing your values to create focus. I think the concepts Proko talks about in the figure drawing course would be helpful to you; the way he shows simplifying complex subjects into simpler forms (robo bean, mannequinization, etc.) are relevant whether you're drawing figures, monsters, or spaceships. So doing exercises like that where you break things down to their fundamental structure will be really beneficial as you continue practicing. Beyond that, just keep going! You've got a great start here and the most important thing is to just do more, study from reference, and have fun. :D

Thanx a lot for your message jon ! All of this is from références but i try to not replicate exactly the same draw, sometimes it's just take an head and i try to improvise the rest... Perspectives volume and anatomy everthings is new for me so i work a lot on fundamentals. I'm really hipe by comics artists like McFarlane, Jim lee, Jerome Opeña recently (by the way you right it look like a skeksis of Dark Crystal but its a reproduction of a sketches in "Seven to eternity" (comics by rick reminder and Jerome Opeña) go to see this amazing designer !) Wolverine was my third draw so yeah i messed up with several things on this one, observation in cause. Thanks again for your encouragements and advices i will continue to work with the course of proko and share some draw here. I saw your work toi on your page, it's really awsome, what do you like the most drawing ? What's your inspiration? And i looking all the time for New things if you have any artists to share i take it ;) All the best, Tony
