I'm a self tought artist who started learning 3d, but realized how the art fundamentals are important and now I'm focusing on them.
Henrique Romão Saito
I'm now studying the book "FORCE animal drawing", and like the book focusing the 10, 5, 2 and 1 minute studies on gesture.

Now focusing more on correcting proportions and balance.
Steve Lenze
Hey Henry, Your structural drawings are looking pretty good. You are maintaining for the most part the gesture of the pose. The issue I'm seeing the most is proportion. Heads are too big, and limbs are too short and a few of the drawings are off balance. I gave notes on the ones that I thought needed the most attention, but some of these are pretty nice :)

Thanks again for the critique, I didin't pay much attention to balance until now, but I'm happy my gestures are good, I will do more now paying more attention to balance and proportions.

Hey, these look pretty good, your really creating some 3D feel. Just be careful that you don't loose all the gesture or make the contour too complicated. I took one of your drawings and did a quick sketch to show you what I mean :)

Thanks, I'll do more studies focusing on gesture and proportions.

Yes, there are alternatives, but draw a box really does make your path easier than if you had to read a book on the subject, for beginners on perspective I really don't see a better alternative, and it really helps if you want to start with more complicated books like "How to draw" by Scott Robertson.

Theses look very 3 dimensional for the most part, but I think you are drawing these using a very distorted perspective. I can tell you are using a vanishing point with these, and the problem is that with small objects especially, if the vanishing point is too close to the object you get odd distortions. I would suggest using an intuitive perspective, meaning create a box that looks good and follows the rules of perspective, then use it as the framework for your drawing. I did a couple of very sloppy examples to show you how you can do this, I hope it helps :)

Thanks, I actually didn't do any vanishing points, but now that you're pointing it out I realize the horrible consequences when practicing the 250 boxes challenge with the imaginary vanishing points too close, and now this habit has shown its consequences, I'll practice now being more careful for not distorting too much and doing more boxes again.

Now focusing on non-organic objects.
Steve Lenze
These are so much clearer and dimensional then your last ones because the shapes are much simpler. Keep at it :)

New studies using animals but simplyfying the shapes
Steve Lenze
Your thinking the right way, breaking down the forms into shapes, but your using shapes that are too complex. Simplify the shapes and don't pay too much attention to all the anatomy and bumps of the silhouette. Break it into shapes that you know. Good exercise to do by the way, keep it up :)

Thanks for the critique, I'll make more exercises focucing on simple shapes, and post it here.

Practicing construction with insects and focusing on 3d shapes, not 2d.

A couple of machine drawings I made for study hope this helps me in the future when drawing mechas, any critics on the perspective part?
