There's something confounding me around the model's distance between her eyes and the hair. The eyes look far too close or small to me and the hair looks like a swimmer's cap. I plan on wrapping this one with the next lesson and then picking up another reference image to practice.

For future/current students, the image doesn't appear to be in the download pack so I have screen capped it here if you need it.

Congratulations to all the winners! This was a very difficult one to judge because there were way more amazing submissions than prizes. And if I counted correctly, there are 105 prizes...

Followed along with Marco Bucci's stream yesterday while also sorrrrta trying to practice FORCE, but probably lost a little of it as the session went by.

Alright went back and did a study after following the live stream earlier today to see what I absorbed. My main takeaways are:
1. the cylinder gesture used to communicate the direction of the body in key parts is actually pretty intuitive and I kind of like using it just to help with initial layin.
2. I'm feeling a lot more confident with how to start with the line of action, which for me is big because it was such a hard concept for me to grasp a year ago.
3. I got to learn more about anatomy, some parts are a real mystery to me.

A really challenging day. These were all 10 mins that I took further to 20, 30 and 60 mins prospectively after I struggled so much with the back pose. Interior details need remeasured and values need some better organization. I took some notes for later. I enjoyed today none-the-less. Hope everyone else is doin' good.

My studies for the day, spent about an hour on each of these.

Fully admit these are me following Josh Black, but you know what I feel like I learned a ton so I don't feel guilty about it...well not that guilty.
A part of me is saying I should put it another hour and do studies in the same approach and see where I'm at. I think if I have the time/energy after I put the baby down than ya I'll give it a go.

Was aiming for two 25 minute studies, though admittedly I probably went 35 min on the second one.
I know its a different approach to layins that Stan teaches, but I do find Stephan Bauman's and Lane Brown's lighter structure into shadow shapes more intuitive. That being said the second one's proportions are more noticeably off, which probably could have been offset had I came at it from a more structural point of view at the start.

Two 25-30 minute studies. I did not know this was within me to do these

I think I've taken this one as far as I can. I'm happy with most of it, but still struggle with the face/hands, which isn't my attempt to discount the work, but boy was it challenging.
I'm going to try to do quicker studies as this one just took much longer than expected (in my defense Baulder's Gate 3 took over a lot of my free time).

Been a while posting, though was still practicing. These are two studies I worked on in the past 2 months.
The women from the back is the one I worked on right after I worked on the reference for this assignment. I was really trying to figure things out with core shadows and some of the definition of back muscles. At some point I had to step away and call it even though I could have fixed a great many things. I also didn't really attempt to render the objects, which I'm cool with because that's not the point.
The man from the front I just finished tonight. I feel like its a good deal of an improvement. I can see a dozen of things I'd do differently, like the face proportions are off, the hands are questionable, ect, but I'm really proud of what I was able to finish.
I'm hoping to do at least 1 finished study a month for the rest of the year, but should start thinking about which aspect I want to focus in on to improve.
Welcome to any feedback.

My first attempt at shading a full figure with this technique. I'm noticing that some of my foundational underlying lines that plot out the muscles are not as accurate as I would like, and those veins are....a challenge, esp when you make it one of the last things to work on and you want to wrap up.
I'm thinking things feel a little....rubbery or overly smooth with some of the shading transitions. I'll have to figure out how to handle that as well.

the anatomical layin. I dont have much knowledge about anatomy, so kinda referenced the jack hamm books. critiques are welcome

Hi @Samuel Sanjaya looks like a good start. I would say looking at it you have some of the proportions off. The torso looks maybe a 1/3 too long, the arms and legs also look a little too long since they may be running off reference points along the torso. I think the head looks a little smaller than it could be, which is leading to the additional feeling that other parts are too long.
My suggestion would be take another pass at it with that in mind and do some measurements between major reference points to get more practice with proportions.

Hi all, I've been trying to get get in reps of measurements, resisting details. Initially, I had been using the methods prescribed in the course and while it had been accurate, I found the process fairly laborious when my goal also was to get a better eye for proportions.
I watched the Dorian Iten's Accuracy Guide that @Jesper Axelsson posted below and started feeling a lot better about the process. It feels looser and feels more intuitive. I think it might be a little less accurate but I try to still use my pen as a guide to sort of mix the methods. I will say that in both methods I have the same issues. That being the head size always being too small, same with the hands/feet.
My goal is to do probably a dozen more before moving forward. Also as an aside, while I know I'm still learning, the 5th measurement is pretty rough, which I attribute to being very tired and distracted when I did that one.

Having a really hard time adapting this to a digital environment. My big PC broke so now I can only use a small laptop screen or Ipad tablet for viewing pose photos. It's very hard to get good measurements from a small screen. Does anyone have any tips? Unfortunately, I don't have access to a printer that can print A3 images.
11mo
@kotka Since you listed A3 as a paper size, I'm going to assume you don't reside in the US, however, are there places you can send files to print easily? In the US, you can email/upload images to be printed and picked up within a few hours to drug stores like Walgreens/CVS or shipping stores like Fedex. That being said I also might assume those companies are meaningless to you :/

Posting some warmup gestures to procrastinate the Richer Proportion homework and I got to say, after really struggling with gestures at the start of this course, I feel like I've made progress and it feels pretty good. Excuse the very light lines, I think I choose a brush size much smaller than I thought, then scaled things down to fit everything....

Finished the last three poses, and I am mostly happy with them, though one of them I feel like I may have not quite finished around the chest.
Going to move on to proportions....errr after I watch the step by step

Alright, I did 8 of the 11 examples for the assignment, with plans to finish the last 3 mid-next week. I looked at the un-exaggerated first, went through my studies, and then looked at the exaggerated after. I also tried not to get too hung up if I matched the same type of exaggerated pose found in the example.
I do feel like I have some trouble figuring out how areas around the exaggeration will be affected. For instance, if the model pushes her pelvis forward, how should her legs be changed to compensate? I don't think it was a major problem, but something I noticed.
Going through the reps repeatedly felt pretty good, going through and comparing the various poses was pretty educational.
