I like drawing as a hobby, love manga style and cartoon, hope to improve with my drawings!
Steve Lenze
Hey Pedro, I think what will help you is if you use more gesture in your drawings, it will help it not look so stiff. Remember when we draw we are telling a story, and we do that with the pose. I did some alternative poses to show you what I mean. I hope they help :)

Sure Steve! For some reason i've been practicing gesture and its been kinda difficult to put it in the drawings, i tend to let it more stiff ( worried about proportions i think ) ,i even tried to use the baisc forms, cilinders, cubes, spheres, but i dont feel comfortable with them.I Will keep practicing, and i think its just as u said, thanks a lot man!

Hi @Pedro Henrique D'Oliveira your drawings are a good starting point for the further development. I like how you are doing the hair. The girls eyes are in the wrong position for me, her right eye is too deep. I tried to correct it with a simple transformation on the computer to show my point. How are you constructing your heads?

@Dominik Zeillinger Man Awefreakingsome THANKS! i knew there was something wrong, a friend wich i showed said something about the eyes but we couldnt identify what it was.I willl pay more attention to that. About how i am constructing the head, i normally make the main sphere, the middle line and vertical line, i've been trying to use the "head slice" from proko's classes" to forge the jaw position, and ears, but the eyes i tend to follow the middle horizontal line, in wich i try making angle positions, from what im seeing it seems when you corrected the eyes position it tended to let the forehead more clear as well the deep of where the eyes were supposed to be, even though its manga , is that right?

Even though your style choice is manga, it really doesn't hurt to go through Proko's figure drawing and portrait drawing classes to get the fundamentals. The face and body structure is the same, it's just more simplified in Manga. For quick fixes on your current upload, I think your tendency is to draw eyes too close to each other. Both in realistic and manga or comic book style, the distance between two eyes is usually at least one eye apart. Manga tends to exaggerate that as well to achieve a youthful look. And when the person doesn't face the camera, like in your first drawing, the eye that's farther away from us should be shorter.

Been trying to create some Original Characters, have a general idea, was trying to improve the line art and finalization in mangá style, would like to let it as if we were reading some black e white painting comic.Any critiques, suggestions, tips and ideas if possible! thanks all!

I would say that the head is a bit off proportions even if it is in "anime" style but great work nonetheless. If you're new to digital I would suggest to practice drawing without zooming in your canvas and treat it as a physical paper so you always see everything rather than focusing on every detail. only zoom in when you want to render details which I've learned the hard way and its really hard to unlearn when you do it for a long time. Always use reference, always squint, and keep on drawing!

Patrick Thanks! you were right! i had to zoom a lot of times, when i was drawing i focused more on the parts that i didnt feel comfortable ,i will keep what you said in mind.Yeah that one i just used reference for the face, i will keep going and thanks a lot man!

Hey Pedro, I like your archer character. I think though it's suffering from being stiff. I did some drawings to show you how you can add more gesture to your poses. It's important to build our characters on top of a good flowing gesture so that they dont look stiff. I hope this helps, keep drawing :)

Steve THANKS! man i loved the way you drew her and exposed the stifeness of my lines, and showed me points of improvement. i promisse you that im going to keep trying!i will try making her in new poses and redrawing , trying to add more curves and gesture as you mentioned!

Nice work! I think the gesture and flow in this character is a bit stiff. The anatomy I think is mostly there although some parts sit a bit oddly to me. I think the collar bones are a bit too low and the way the breasts connect to the armpit is too high. I might suggest watching the Proko lesson on how to draw breasts. I think you might suffer from the same problem as me when I draw things on angles that aren't straight on - I tend to straighten the object. For your base, I might actually suggest drawing the nipples on to remind you which way the chest is pointing. The breast on her left hand side looks like it's rotated forward where I think it should be more angled to face her right. Her left leg also looks a little off to me - I think it might be something about the knee but I''m not 100% sure. I would probably suggest posing in a mirror to try check it. A fair chunk of these flaws are covered when you add clothing, especially the full black outfit. I hope you find this critique useful - feel free to ignore it if not.

Charlene , thanks a lot! i was lookin for critiques, its how we improve! you had a different view of my drawing, its hard to find the mistakes and correct them alone, it takes a while mostly.I will train more breasts, i have a very difficult time with body angles too, the knee i really didnt do properly,i wanted to draw as soon as i could, i didnt have a pose reference.but again thanks a lot!

Been practicinig for a while,it took some time, tried some new things as to put some textures mixed with materials and lighting and shadows in the character, tips, advices, critiques are all welcome!.tried to imagine the 3D forms, and in the anatomy had to separete the muscle parts, think it got ok....but theres space for more improvement!

This is pretty fancy. Although I'm not too familiar with Manga, some more shading could really make your work pop. Try to smooth the shadows and be very precise with your strokes to give it a cleaner aesthetic. Keep it up!

Nice work Pedro! As you said you are testing out some new digital features, so my advice would be to work more on your lines, doing some draftsmenship exercises, since drawing digital can feel very different from drawing on paper. Also the clavicle is too low, it usually sits on the start of the shoulder. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Arthur!Yeah gotta check about the clavicle.i've been having hard times with digital drawings, this one i first, sketched on paper, then passed to computer ,and used the image as a base to give more details from the upper layer, don't know if that is a good way to practice, but since i had the manual base lines, i just had to follow with digital, and correct what i wanted.

Great start! I love testing new stuff too. Since you're working digitally, try flipping the image every once in a while, so you can see spot some mistakes more easily. In this one I can see that the right side of his body could use some perspective, it feels like he is face the viewer but his shoulders indicate his body is facing slightly to the right. And the right wing too could use some twisting 😉

Thanks Vini, i will intensify more studies in shape perspectives, can't do that well with anatomy, been just practicing with basic forms,squares,triangles,rectangles,etc....Thanks for te tips!

Hello, I think the best way , and fastest way ,to improve your anatomy is to learn gesture drawing and then in-depth anatomy because I think learning only about muscle makes us artist too focus on little detail and not the whole picture. I think the way you draw your character makes him rather flat, like a 2d image and not a 3D figure in space ,I the bean and robo bean lessons from Mr Prokopenko will Help . It is generally recommended that we use longer and more confident line (use the motion of the shoulder to draw and not the wrist), don’t worry that a line is off a little. And for the character, I quite like him and hoping to see more of him in the future.

Thanks a lot Granny Piner! i will watch those classes and make its exercises!i will keep on thinking as a 3D form instead of 2D, you said well, when i drew him i was focusing not on the solid 3D forms.Don't worry, gonna work on him soon!

Been studying some new 3D modeling tools, any suggestions?critiques? what can i do to improve it? i havent put any texture since im just tring to adjust the model and get some shadow and lighting studies.I took the opportunity to study a little bit of Maya,Inca and Aztec archtecture, could add more details later.
@pollypopcorn
One thing I would do is look at a lot of art that's similar to what you're going for and observe how they do different things like draw hair, create shadows, draw eyes, and what kinds of proportions and head shapes they use.

Hi Pedro! Great effort. If I may I would like to point a few things out to you that might help you. First I would direct you to drawabox.com they have easy to follow lessons with video instructions to help you achieve a greater control over your line quality. They will also teach you the proper way to approach geometric forms with the right perspective. Right now your geometric forms are not accurate, to make them better you need to understand 1point, 2point perspective properly. As for your figure drawings, I would ask you to focus less on details and more on the overall gesture of the pose. Watch proko’s gesture videos and try to use sweeping lines (C,I,S curves only) to make your gesture poses. Try to emulate Stan’s line control and decision making. These things are important to pay attention to as they bring more life to our drawings otherwise they might seem stiff and loose. Keep learning and posting your work so we can see you progress! Hope this helped.

hey Shaurya !Thanks the critiques and tips, i will check drawabox.Yeah i gotta improve the perspectives, it is still hard sometimes, and focus more on the gesture itself!

This is a great effort. You surely seem motivated. Gesture is something difficult to grasp without some fundamentals of the body first. In my opinion you should focus first in the relationship between the torso and the hip bone. The so called "bean". You have some proko videos refering to this concept. Leave the extremities aside for this task, at least until you feel comfortable with just the core of the body : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqxPHew5bGQ hope it helps.

Hi ! I thinks that the way to go, im studying like that as well, from the figures i believe you're using Sketch Daily right? i liked the sketches a lot man! If i can share some tip that i do, i normally draw the chest then a circle as the lower part, then as lines for the limbs before putting some shape, i think that helps to visualize the figures.
