Konstantinos here. I am a doctor from Cyprus, currently working in Greece and I have a pretty heavy weekly work schedule. I do have a dream though of one day drawing my own independent comic book, not in order to join the comic book industry, (I'm quite satisfied with my job) but to show my own love for the medium. I was influenced a lot from american superhero comics, manga, and the giant robot and tokusatsu genres of Japan. I try to get to a decent level as an artist where I will be able to draw panel after panel from imagination. So far I practiced a lot of gesture and construction, mainly via pencil. I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to rendering although I have dabbled in inking and digital coloring. As I said my workload allows me to draw for about 2 hours per week where I try to do some focused practice. These days I study a lot of gundam mobile suits, cars and industrial design in order to be able to draw aesthetically appealing mecha. Those drawings have been done in the span of about 3 years of work in different phases of my art learning. Any help is appreciated.

Hospital's Hope. I love Berserk and I am a casual Green Lantern fan. I drew this during the first quarantine. It's a "Blue Lantern-style" superhero symbolizing every person in the hospital's staff playing their part in the fight against disease. Spreading hope as well as drawing power from it. I myself worked in a covid clinic a few months ago and I got to see live what unexpected heroes look like real-time. So that's my tribute.

no objections there, I just found more groups about mecha designers and gunpla enthusiasts in facebook so I thought it might attract more people :/

Title pretty self explanatory. I am very passionate about gundam mobile suits and I am trying to figure out the design principles behind them. I have some drawing experience and very limited experience in design but I am trying slowly to create an integrated resource for non-japanese speaking enthusiasts who want to learn how to draw gundam-style mecha. Here is the link to my group, feel free to join and share any insight you might have or check out the resources and artwork posted over time. https://www.facebook.com/groups/412374443456130

A Kaiju I came up with last year on Kaijune. I love Pacific Rim and Kaiju/mecha related themes. This year though for me is all about learning mecha and industrial design so far.

Hello Siqi!!! I am a doctor from Cyprus, studying in Greece in my first year of medical residency, second year of training after medical school overall. i started drawing as an amateur in my final year of medical school and it was indeed hard to find the time and energy, but the emotional reward was indeed something else. A few years later its the same story. Long working hours, lack of sleep, studying of other subjects can indeed take their toll. That being said I do love drawing very much so one way or another I am gradually building a system in order to be able to keep drawing and even improving over time. I am glad to see that there are other people in the same boat.

I don't think I'm in a position to offer a class on the subject atm but I do have an interest in mechs. I've been drawing them since I was a kid. Gundams can be pretty challenging. For the technical skills you'll need to study perspective and some anatomy. For the design you'll want study the gundams you like to understand the design language then focus on taking inspiration from real world things like armors, robotics, or other subjects you want to Gundamify. I wouldn't mind starting a study group on this subject where we set up challenges and critiques.

Nice work!!! Yes I would be very interested too!!! Up to recently I've had no design experience so I took up some car design courses in order to get at least an idea on how styling works. I did help in the understanding of Gundam shape language a bit but I don't have anything organised yet and most books I found on the subject are written in japanese. I keep trying though. Any ideas on how to make a study group and attract interested people?

Hi there! You don't need to be specifically drawing gundam as its own. Typically those robot structures follow the shape of muscle in human or other animals, that's why we associate them with proper form and its mechanism. Try using "chain" method to picture the interconnecting volumes, and practice drawing rigid shapes in perspective. I'd suggest you look at Scott Robertson's How to Draw book, it has very detailed explanation on how rigid shapes are plotted in 3d space. For some reason I always associate mecha with erotic fantasies so I don't tend to draw them much. But robots are nothing different than drawing say vehicles and architectures. So keep practising. Also, don't feel afraid to draw gundam as what you understand they would be look like. Then the key is to compare your stuff to the existing references, and check carefully whats different. You will then see something's off, figure out why that's off, maybe the ratio wasn't represented correctly, or you misunderstood structure in the first place. Do this over and over again so you'll see improvements!

I have Scott Robertsons book and also I take drawabox course. Thank you for the suggestion. What I am looking for in particular though is someone with experience on drawing Gundam or similar mechs to receive feedback from.

You should do some research on "ergonomics". Its the study of injury prevention caused by continuous repetitive minor strain (e.g carpal tunnel from constant keyboard use etc). For me the most helpful thing was to divide my hour in 45 minutes of sitting and drawing and 15 minutes of walking around and looking out the window (this also helps with eye fatigue and headache). I also found that whenever I sat on the chair for more than one continuous hour the pain and damage was becoming worse by the minute after that, so I would suggest to avoid it. Hope it helps.

Hello Konstantinos! I've never made the jump into Gundam, but I'm a fan of all giant robots and love their designs. Possibly my first drawing book ever was "You Can Draw Transformers." By and large, I think that it covers many topics that would be helpful for constructing your Gundams. I will admit it's a pretty basic book. At the very least, it's a fun book to flip through and see cool robots. I'll see if I can share some images from it tomorrow.

Hey Konstantinos! This is a recent Gundam inspired bot of mine, but I don’t specialize in all things Gundam- I’m a fairly new fan. If you have any art you’d like to share here though please feel free!

I love Gundam robots and I want to learn how to draw them from imagination and come up with my own designs. Is there anyone experienced with Gundam art to help me with feedback or give pesonal lessons for a fee? If you are please post your art and an email I can reach you to. Thank you.

Depending on age I would recommend Berserk by Kentaro Miura, Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo as adult-oriented. Also I heard great comments about Vagabond. For a bit younger audiences Eyeshield 21 by Yusuke Murata.
