Thanks Proko! It was a lot of fun to draw from all those nice reference photos and to see all the great artwork. I look forward to doing it again.

These comic poses are really fun to draw! The dramatic angles and foreshortening were challenging... so I worked through a bunch of them trying to get their basic gestures sorted out first....then went back and tried to define a few a bit more. I started finding a flow that seemed to work after the first few...but they are still pretty messy. (I was really liking the poses and wanted to draw more of them vs spending the time cleaning them up). I'd definitely like to try more of these poses and learn how to bring them to the comic art level... those Ryan Benjamin drawings above are awesome!!! Thanks for a fun week of challenges Proko!...I didn't get enough sleep but I did learn some good stuff with all the drawing. :)

I went through and did some quick gestures to figure out the poses a bit first...then went back to the ones I found most interesting to solidify the structure with blocks and cylinders... I haven't done this for a while and some of the poses had some tricky spots...I think that I need to do this more often.

Definitely out of my comfort zone here. Tried a new technique where I try to use the selection tool to make shapes to paint into. I like the way it was turning out with the skull ...but wasn't happy with the colors I'd chosen or some of the other choices I made. Moved it to be more monochromatic and I think it's headed in a better direction...just didn't have the time to really figure it out. Sometimes a piece of art is just done when you run out of time!

I followed Stan's suggestion and did a bunch of quicker 3 min sketches...then I circled back and added a bit more to some of the ones I liked...wish I'd had more time today to take them a bit further...just tried to get the important stuff to convey the expression.

Hello everyone! It's my first time participating in the 12 Days of Proko, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Here are some forceful gestures that I did. I had an amazing time drawing dynamic poses from the pack. I tried to capture the energy of the pose and stay loose. By the way, the timer is really good and convenient to use! And thanks to Proko for collaborating with amazing artists!

Man, I super-duper hate doing this. I watch the demos and how brilliantly it all works for them, then I try to do fast and loose strokes with my pencil and it’s just utter garbage. Lol. I’ve got to watch much more, and it’s almost like the more instruction, the more screwed up I get in having a sense of how to stroke and how to visualize what it is I’m attempting to do. Of course, my watching the demos or live streams at 2x speed, may be a factor in my stroke speed being distorted as I try to mimic the pros. But alas, I’m on a 7th grade level, so I shouldn’t seek to be a Rembrandt in a day, a week, or a year. i do think I’ll need to go back and watch plenty of gesture demos, frustrating though they are for me. I do see their value, I just suck at them and don’t know that I have the technique even in the ballpark of a free wrist or shoulder making the strokes, and then I try to see what is the stroke or shape I need to be attempting (thinking as if I were a pro), and I don’t feel like I see it. I feel blind to what I'm searching for.

Don't be too hard on yourself. The only way you don't get better is if you give up...

I haven't done quick poses for a while so I decided to try the whole lot...5 min each! (Yeah...I should've done the math first). If I had more time I'd go redraw some of the more dynamic poses Anyway, here they are! PS. Mike is an awesome teacher and artist. I've improved a lot with my art by learning Force Drawing principles.

I don't recall ever drawing armor before...and I definitely didn't know how to simplify and depict it like Peter Han so masterfully did above. So I got sucked into the first photo I started....I've been trying to improve my ability to paint so I gave it a whirl...Didn't finish...there's so much going on with armor!...I'll have go watch Peter's demo video and give it another shot.

Timer was initially for 20 min each...but then I sped it up and found the pause button...I felt like that gave me the liberty to breeze through the photos and pick the ones I found most appealing to draw with my limited time frame. I like the timer though...I could see the benefit of working through a nice reference pack making myself draw whatever came up as well.

Mike is a great teacher (and artist) and really knows his stuff. He is very skilled at using his knowledge and drawing prowess to explain topics in a clear, concise way.

Before and after watching demonstration videos again. On this one I learned I should have done more to clarify the inner thigh (per anserine and other medial muscle attachments). I also like how Stan sublet shows the shape of the glut with just a couple nice lines.

Before and after watching the video demonstration. I think I did a pretty nice job initially on the plane changes but after watching video could do better to better define overall shapes in HS, flow of glut into upper thigh.

Before and after again. Feeling more confident about my own drawing and using Stan's demo to help clean up and refine the end result

Before and after watching the video again. (original has the blue construction underneath). I'm definitely getting better at analyzing the shapes, and construction from watching all these demos! This course has really been great.

Before and after watching the video (the cleaned up version is the after). I feel like I'm getting much closer on my own but Stan always has some subtle overlaps, shapes and shading that takes his to another level.

Great lessons. I really like the focus on structure and shape as dictated by position and function. Stan makes it seem so simple.

I love the analysis and breakdown of the thinking behind the drawing of muscle fiber directions and shape. Thank you. Well done.
