Asked for help
Brief update: I've been sketching hands a good bit and finally did some digitally that I'm pretty happy with at the moment. Granted, I had rendering and Ctrl + Z on my side in this scenario, but I still don't think I'd be able to do these when I posted originally. I'd love some critiques on how to further improve. (I'm not as happy with the top right one - I used the airbrush too much when more confident shadows would have created better dimensionality.)

Hey! My name is Annelise Ochsner, I'm a 15 year old self-taught artist who loves traditional mediums. I have barely done any digital work but I definitely want to get into it. I usally do animals, but I would love to learn to do figures/portraits and get better at perspective :D My favorite mediums are acrylic painting, graphite drawing, sculpting, watercolor and recently ohuhu markers! I'm hugely inspired by Aaron Blaise and would also love to get into animation! Let's just say I have alot of room to grow. Here's some of my work!

The 3/4-view tiger looks great! I've been wanting to use toned paper recently; the accents really stand out because of it

Just joined a couple days ago. I'm trying to get better at basically everything, but my favorite things to draw are people and animals. My main focuses are ink and digital paint. I'm also working on improving my animation skills which currently don't really exist. I'm trying to get better at portraits, too, but I have a lot of trouble creating a likeness. (ignore the hand on the 6th image, it looks worse to me each time I see it lol) If anyone has any advice/critiques on anything, I'd love to hear it.

Hi there! :) My name is annki. I'm 31, from Germany. Through my life I tried a lot of diffrent kinds of art. My favourite since early childhood is still drawing. I also do like watercolour painting, digital painting and photoshop compositioning/collaging. My main subjects are animals and fanart - recently I got into portrait drawing. For a long time I admired artists who could draw accurate faces and was afraid of failing trying it myself. But it's fun and I definitley want to get better at it.  What I am struggling with in general is that I still don't know my style. At least I don't see it. And I don't know how to draw hair and fur. The process seems confusing to me. Before coming here I already followed courses by Aaron Blaise and learned some animal anatomy.

Having taken some Aaron Blaise courses as well, I immediately recognized the tip about the two parts of the wolf's head being parallel haha. Also the watercolor wolf is really pretty; I love the paint splatters

Hey Sabrina, Nice job doing all these hands, practicing them will serve you well. Make sure that even when you stylize hands, that you still work to make them look like they have volume and dimension. Also, by using some details like folds in the skin or fingernails can help us show perspective. I did a couple of sketches to show you what I mean. Cartooning, or stylization is very subjective, but I think this will help your hands look more dimensional. Hope it helps :)

Thank you for your advice! That makes sense. I may have rushed into oversimplification too quickly.

I’ve been trying to do some semi-stylized hands. Any tips in terms of simplification or some part of the bone structure I’m missing? Stylised or not, I want them to be relatively accurate.
