the Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencil, which is easily recognizable by it’s bright blue casing. These pencils range from very soft (9B) to very hard (9H). The company add a special component to the graphite that avoid the shinines in the B values. They dont want to say what is this special componnent.

nice job on the proportions. The only thing I could advise you is to take your drawing a little further and round out the shapes to give the curves a softer tone. This way the face will look more feminine and more alive. The other thing you can do is render the cheek a little bit more to give it a slight gradient and it dosent look too strong. If you squint the eyes the cheekbone is very marked in your drawing. And by having so much contrast in this area, it steals the spotlight to the most important features of the face: the eyes, the nose and the lips. but very well you have a good solid base on which to keep working on.

My 2nd attempt, around 7 hours - watercolor. I intended the neck to be darker, but it made the head pops too much. I used cool light under the jaw with gouache but it's too much. I still can't copy/color pick from the photo into my color palette yet. Any tips on how to copy the color from reference into the palette?

Very good! Watercolors are quite a complicated world. But if you do it well, it looks much better than an oil painting because we are made of water. Great job

I agree with the other comments. Very good control of face values. This was quite a tricky pose but you were able to solve it quite well.

the proportions of the face very well. Perhaps you can lower the tones a bit so that you do not have so many contrasts in the face and the shadows are not so strong. On female faces the word subtlety is the key. The rendering has to be very smooth because if we go overboard we can over-mark the lines of the face. But your drawing is still very good. keep on!

Second attempt this evening giving myself the same amount of time as the livestream (around three hours) started at 3AM BST, did what I could until 6AM. Tried doing the best I could, not confident with the features but I am curious to know what others think. 🙂

good job there! well focused on the proportions and the quality of the lines. I would suggest to push the drawing a little bit further. Rounding the shapes to make it look more organic. But if this was just for practice its good too. I finished a lot of my drawings at shadows blocking stage.

I missed the livestream, but I watch it later and made a 1 hour sketch of the reference model. 3B pencil and blackwing matte on A5 sketchbook.

I have to pop out of stream, thank you for today, was really fun to draw along! This is what I drew, doesn't look a lot like the reference photo but I tried. I struggle a lot with staying with a drawing for longer so this was great practice and I'd love feedback on what to improve

very good work. I would recommend that next time you focus on a specific area of the face such as the eyes or the mouth and practice drawing in various positions. Another thing to keep in mind is the rendering of the lines if you see that they are too thick you can lower the tone a bit so as not to have so many contrasts. But very well drawing I kept it up.

Hi there! I'd love to get some feedback on the result of Bauman's beautiful livestream :) In particular I'd like to receive ideas on how to make the hair look better, as well as any notes on what I have missed (big or small). Thanks to everyone on the Proko (and or) critique team for this opportunity! (PS: Sorry for the poor image quality, maybe I could use some help with that too :D)

wow this was harder that what I thought. This is my first time doing a portrait of this kind but it was really fun. I had problems in the mouth and I have problems with the eyes. I couldnt get the right proportion. Thank you Steven and all the Proko team!
