A proposal to build a new Colossus of Rhodes, Greece. The sketch represents Mankind…past, present and future

Hello everyone! This is my final submission, it is based on a character/creature design. He is a bored guard that has fought many battles but now he has been sitting on the gate pillar for many days, waiting for something to happen.

The Sleemur Semi- amphibious lemur Habitat: dense marshy wetlands with many small pools of water and thick vine covered trees. Diet: The sleemur hunts for large snails that can be found in the mud of the pools and in the trees during the dry season. It may also eat various beetles, vegetation, and it's own jellyfish if food is scarce. Most Sleemurs are solitary and have a symbiotic relationship with marsh jellyfish that attach themselves to the creature with spores when first entering a pool of water. The jellyfish act as a defense from predators, stinging those that attempt to attack, and also hitch a ride from pool to pool picking up tiny organisms to eat and releasing new spores.The jellies also can bioluminescence at night, which aid the Sleemur in communication and mating rituals.  The Sleemur has a claw hand slightly webbed that works well for navigating around the thick vines and digging in the mud for food with the hallow scoop in its main claw. It uses its mandibles for holding and sensing for its next meal. Sleemurs are nocturnal, but they will occasionally display crepuscular behaviors hunting during the early day if it is heavily overcast. Refence used: seahorse, jellyfish, beetle and lemur. 

"The Guardian" A war broke out between mankind, resulting in a large stone warrior to retaliate and bring peace to the world - that war has now long since passed and now a lone Giant Mantis Warrior explores the long dormant Colossus who is merely sleeping, waiting to see if he is needed again. Adobe Photoshop CC 2021, used ink and watercolor brushes that appear realistic; feel and look inspired by Daoist paintings of the 13-15th century. References Used: 1. Landscape with Hill 2. Roman Torso 3. Structure with Snow 4. Mushrooms 5. Leaves 6. Roman Helm 7. Sword 8. White Flowers Will definitely participate in the future, this is my first challenge - it was awesome to do!

Current progress. I wanted to do something different than before and went a Daoist inspired route. I like this better than the last one. Thoughts?

I’m wondering if I should add color, even if a small amount, or just leave it since “Sketch” is specified and color makes it less sketchy

trying to add as many references as I can while still maintaining some sense of story lol

Progress for today. "The Guardian" I fixed the torso a bit more, resized it, improved the composition, added more grass detail, a helm from the armor image, a sword from the sword image, and a flag just because I thought it would look nice. Critique Requests: Debating on adding color or just leaving it as is. Helm placement might be weird here, wanted to get a sense of depth. Still playing around with composition. May possibly add clouds in the sky very lightly (similar to Chinese or Daoist art) that just fades into the background color. I want this to appear as if the viewer is looking at this thing but it's huge but still a bit away. Might add or suggest a hill to achieve this. Thoughts on color lines? Necessary or just have it all be black? Thoughts on grass cross-hatching? Too much, too little? Too light? Necessary? Thoughts on improvements or suggestions are appreciated! Hope everyone is well! "The Guardian" First time participating in Proko Challenge and new to the community! Hiya, name's Dakota, I'm a graphic designer by trade but received a BA a few years ago. I have always loved this kind of stuff and thought I'd give it a try. This is my first pass with and without color. I think I am struggling with readability and may have to tone down some of the foliage on the stone part so that it can be seen, as it is supposed to be the torso of the Roman like statue. Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated, I want to do the best that I can. This is very fun and I have enjoyed the process thus far. Love seeing everyone else's too. Have fun and keep creating! Look forward to meeting some of you!
