These look great. I didn't get to this lesson yet but one thing I noticed is that it looks like your cylinders can be a little wider around the thigh in the first three drawings.

Hi there guys! I usually practice a lot on drawing gestures but I notice that I didn't post much and ask for feedbacks about my works. So here are some of the gesture drawings that I've made, the first one is 1 min poses and the second one is 2 mins. I found out that one of the most difficult part for me is estimating the length of the torso, specifically the distance between the shoulders to the hips. I often make it a bit longer than what it actually should look like. Please give any tips or advice on how can I improve my gestures. I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Hey Dylan, If you look at some of the gesture example videos you can see Stan visually measuring proportions. Try to see where parts of the body line up and draw an imaginary line. There might be better ways but that's what I've been trying to do. It looks like proportions are covered later in the figure drawing course. I'm at the beginning of this course too.

Hello. I have something to say about my drawing and I would like to ask for guidance because it's been troubling me a lot these days. But first, I will tell a little story about myself. I started drawing when I was like 6-7 years old by copying my favorite characters and stuff, but 6 years have passed and I have not yet learned the fundamentals. Now, I am 14 years old and I just started learning the fundamentals 2 months ago by watching Proko's Figure Drawing Fundamentals course. Yes, I think I am improving at a very nice pace but I can't seem to have patience in learning other things such as drawing hands, characters, faces, and other complex things. So, I tend to focus more now on improving drawing other things rather than focusing on the fundamentals. I think I am really just overthinking this but I just want to improve my drawing skills. What can you say about it?

Copying other artist’s work is a great way to learn. I used to draw from comic books when I was 14. I’m just starting to do that again. It’s fun and I’ve already seen an improvement in my work. Keep doing that if you enjoy it and post your work online to get feedback. If you’re having trouble with drawing something specific, like hands for example, try to practice copying the hands that your fav artists draw. You can pick up the fundamentals along the way.

Day 12 doing gestures now i’ve finally opened up to some 2 mins gestures, turns out adding thickness to gestures is way harder than just conveying them with lines. Most of them came out pretty poorly as expected comsidering i’ve almost never drew 2 mins gestures at all, if some of you feel like they could point out some mistakes and give out some helpful critique please do so as any help would be tremendously helpful, thankyou in advanced

Hey, once again these look more like 30 sec gestures. I had the same issue. When I look at my 2 minute drawings from a few days ago I wonder how it took so long to get that result. So I did a lot of 30 sec gestures. Once you do that 2 minutes feels like a long time. If you can get the results above in 30 secs then you will have time to add in more details, such as cross contour lines, which way the head is facing, the position of their hands and feet, etc. BTW which program are you using to draw?

Hello! Here's my attempt at this activity - I did one page of 30 sec - 1 min sketches of gestures from the Proko model pack. Then I did the same gestures for 2 mins each to see how the different times had different results, also having that 30 seconds warm-up. These are super feathered and so the first critique of having of my own is to focus on being more deliberate with my lines and using fewer pencil strokes to express the lines I'm trying to make. Anyway, hit me with what you'd advise! Cheers Ps: My niece is also into figure drawing, as you can see on the last page! 😉

It looks like you have a good sense of the movement of the pose. You already have a few good clean lines in each figure, you just need to work on cleaning up the other lines. Try using the ghosting technique and make a few imaginary strokes before touching pencil on paper and then commit to that line, don't go over it. Your 2 min sketches don't look much different than your 30 sec ones. Mine were like this too so I have been working on 30 sec gestures to improve line quality.

Hi guys this is my first time posting. Here are some of my very first gesture drawing exercises, They're mostly 30 sec poses but there's also a couple 2 min ones (they're from the following lesson plus a pic i liked). I've mostly been struggling with identifying the underlying movement of the figure, instead of focusing on the features; plus with the 30 sec poses i guess i lose track of proportions... in any case, here they are. Any criticism/ advice is gladly welcome :)

I'd suggest trying to get a few more lines in your 30 sec drawings. I would put both sides of the torso and if you can get an extra line in for at least one arm or leg I think that helps with showing the gesture. Try making your 30 sec gesture drawings smaller, you'll fit a lot more per page and making shorter strokes will help you get more lines down. I just do them all in rows one after the other.

Hi guys, I've got a question for you, one that has less to do with technique and more to do with a practical use of space I guess... I've started exercising with 30 sec and 2 mins gesture sketches but I always find myself being unable to fit more than one pose sketch per page (I use a 'normal' A4 blank notebook and an HB pencil). Should I try and draw smaller sketches or maybe use bigger sheets? Or am I simply overthinking a trivial issue? (my fear is that by not using space on the page properly I don't get to draw as much... I guess) In any case, I'll be thankful for any response. Bye :)

My 30 second gestures improved when I started drawing smaller figures. I think it's helpful to practice both larger and smaller sketches. Maybe save your larger sketches for longer studies.

Most of these look good for 30 second sketches. I would work on doing some longer studies (2min+) before moving on. That's what I'm going to do anyway.
