After not touching this project for some time, I gotta say it was so much fun coming back to it with fresh ideas. For my next project, I think I’ll give myself tighter constraints on exactly what type of character I’m making.

Here’s my five! I’m wondering how to go about making interesting and appealing shapes. Also, how to go about posing from a front view. Thank you!

Alrighty! Went back in and filled up that empty space. I think I’m over 80 drawings now! Such a fun creative exercise.

I went with the fisherman route. It got pretty wild! I really liked the idea of having a chum monster. A revenge of the sea type of thing.

Gotta love Eliza! Such a cool style. One thing that I would recommend is to pay close attention to the relationships between forms. For example, the two eyes. On Eliza’s there’s an upward angle connecting the two and yours goes straight out to the side. Another important relationship that many use would be the ears and the eyes. The angle between the two can actually tell you if you’re looking up or down at the head. Another thing to keep in mind is that forms wrap around the head. Keep it up!!

I seriously love this. What an amazing tribute. Somethings I would suggest would be to push the gesture a little more. For example, the torso could be tilted forward some more and the arm holding the surfboard could be pulled back, and the opposite for the other arm. Maybe the tongue could have some more wave to it? But seriously. Awesome work!!

Nice drawing! It looks to me that there isn’t very much contrast in your values (the darks and lights). This can kind of throw off depth and flatten the image. One place where you can go darker is on forms that are in front of others like the teeth, and the muzzle. Also, unless you’re going for hyperrealism, don’t worry about drawing all of the hairs. Try and hint at the textures through shadows and form. Hope this helps!
