That's great! Could you also let your subscribers know about the ongoing goFundMe campaign? I think it would help them greatly.

is there a specific reason that you want to do that? i would always couple these kind of challenges with specific things you want to learn so that you really got something out of it when you are done.

The Only thing i would tweak is the contrast to shift the focus more towards the person with the lantern. you can do that via lightning or/and color. i attached a quick example, you of course would need to tweak it more to make it look good. i pushed it to far :)

@appo Wow, beautiful stuff! I love how fantastic and whimsical these creatures and environments look, it certainly evokes curiosity and imagination for the stories these illustrations tell. And for me, someone who’s used to digital media for finished work, knowing it’s been fully done in gouache and watercolor pulls an extra “wow”. Great job!

the only thing i would crit is the color you picked for her left leg. with the strong blue tint it kinda pops out more then the right leg with its flesh tone. the values are fine but the color itself kinda puts it into the "foreground" in term of attention when you look at it.

would you mind to post a link of the original piece to see how it looks like and based on that what could be improved?

I'm not familiar with old stuff either. To me I could describe these as a bit of @Aaron Blaise kind of cartoony shape language with a more tight rendering like those hero comics do (quite nicely rendered flesh and other forms). I've seen Boban Savić GETO's work, this particular person's style do align more with the reference you give there. It's /geto on artstation (I could not post link or it might get blocked) and /boban-savic-geto on deviant art, although their shape isn't as "stylized" as what you linked. I think nowadays you could look up some coloured pencil drawings, they got the similar texture, it's just matter of finding the shape you like.

the rendering and composition looks great. the only thing i for myself see critical is the light value which you esablished on her. right now her hip/leg area is the brightest thing in the image which drives the eye to it and kinda establish it as the focal point of your piece. in itself not wrong or bad when it was your intention but i would try to keep it on her head/eye. i did a quick change to show you what i mean. leg area got darkened to match the three she sits on, background a bit lightened to have a stronger contrast to her shape and i added some light to the eye. left - original, right my suggestion.

@Marshall Vandruff I am not sure if you are actually using this Forum but i thought it would be best to tag you too but to everyone else, feel free to contribute your input to that question. Does anyone of you know any good Resources to dive into that kind of Style or the Overall direction of Fantasy, "Children Book" Illustrations? the first thing which pops out are the highlight "windows" on her hair. doesnt make much sense when you look at the shadow direction. piece itself is still work in progress, right?

only thing i would touch up a bit is the left side of the wall. darkening it a bit more would draw the focus more on her and kinda "frame" her. i am not sure about the scene itself, if its supposed to be windows and a city outside but maybe some soft highlights from it might add a bit of a "cut" to the background for her to pop out even more.
