Hi all! My name is Adam, I am an artist and musician in Denver, CO, love Proko. I am also disabled. One thing I have found from most podcasts/content I have listened to, and very much Draftsmen as well, is the emphasis on getting into "the industry" be it at a studio or freelance or other. There is a big focus on artists doing "what you love" as your "career," ("career" usually meaning means of income). For many with disabilities, this is simply impossible due to barriers both internal and societal. For example, I truly believe I have the passion, talent, and drive to work at a studio like Naughty Dog or Pixar---yet given my medical condition, making deadlines on the conventional corporate and Western timeline is literally impossible. Freelance work is also not an option, because of barriers with health insurance, medical bills, etc. The reality is that even corporate jobs fail to provide ample accommodations for most disable people, and governmental aid is shaky at best. That said, I DO believe that I can live a fulfilling artistic life apart from "the industry" and apart from "doing what I love as a career." *Intro Over* The point of this thread then, I guess, is to bring disabled artists together to discuss the ways they find fulfillment and joy in their work in their own unique way! Let's talk about the creative ways we get around societal barriers to promote and express our art. Please, let's keep this thread positive, and use supportive and inclusive language. Let's rewrite the narrative of disability and art!

Hey everyone! Returning to drawing and finally posting, and would love any CC. This is a combination of Gesture Quick Sketch (1-5 min) drawings that I felt were some of my more successful ones, and some Torso masses from the Anatomy Course. Gesture: I did these on 18x24 with charcoal or marker. It helps me to draw with confidence when I can't erase, and also when I can feel the full motion in my arm while standing. The models are from an open figure studio I go to, as well as some Pinterest action shots I found. I have improved more from Quick sketches I think than anything in years as far as confidence as well as quick measurements and I've had fun getting expressive as well. I used to be the king of scratchy/feathery drawing. The color pastel photo was a quick sketch too and I had fun really trying to be expressive with it. Torso Forms: I apologize for the messiness, (and excuse my notes) getting shapes like that in perspective is a new thing to me. But I've found that in all my other drawing apart from the class things are starting to look actually like 3D forms so I'm excited about it! I apologize for the novel here, I'm just excited about what I've been learning! Let me know what you think. Adam

Can someone please please explain to me the difference between the “angle of the ellipse” and the “long axis?” I have spent weeks trying to figure out the ellipse/bucket and every time I think I have a breakthrough I end up confusing myself and even more. It’s the ellipse I have the most trouble with. I have watched and re watched multiple times the anatomy, how to draw, and critique videos in this section and am stuck and getting frustrated. Somehow the way Stan explains the lines in the first critique video just does not click. Can someone please explain the process of drawing the ellipse (especially at angles/tilts that are not perfectly horizontal or vertical)? Diagrams greatly appreciated. I would upload pics of my attempts but they are so scattered and confused at this point that I don’t think it will help. Please explain as if talking to a seven year old and I will be forever grateful!

Hey Ralph- I appreciate the response, however I am not finding it very helpful to what I am struggling with, which is seeing and executing and ellipse (not a circle) at all angles and tilts accurately to render the bucket form for the pelvis. I also feel like Stan referred to drawing one line “from side to side” (long axis?) and another as “angle of the ellipse.” In Stans “how to draw a pelvis” and the first critique of the section, they both had a horizontal angle. If anyone out there can step by step me through constructing an ellipse with a more extreme tilt I would super super appreciate it!
