Take your turn at some Mario mushrooms! You don’t want to practice the exact same mushroom each time. So make sure to vary your ellipses to get the most out of this warmup.
Keep in mind these two key factors while you practice your mushrooms.
Pressure - Keep your pencil pressure hard in the areas where you want the lines to show up darker and soft where you want them to show up lighter.
Placement - Make sure to align your ellipses in the correct spots.
This is a warm-up, it’s not meant to look perfect. Don’t waste time going back over your lines to make them look pretty.
Practice this exercise until you feel like you have a solid grasp of the concept. It could be one page or it could be one page every day. It will be different for each of you, and that’s okay.
Don't forget to share your warm-ups in the community with your fellow classmates!
Here are my mushrooms. This was a fun exercise. I’ve never been good at, or often tried, to ghost in ellipses. Trying to use my arm and shoulder more with creating lines, as well. This is a good one to get everything moving!
Just got back form my trip so moving away from the tablet and trying pencil and paper for the first time. It was fun to try different pencils as well and how they feel to the paper. This was definitely a lot of fun to do! Will keep doing it as a warm up exercise :-) (P.s.: The production quality of the videos, even in a "simple" one like this is outstanding! Great job @Stan Prokopenko and thanks so much for these).
Doing the mushroom warmups for 2 weeks, now I feel my right hand doesn't shake much even when I keep it hovering over the paper, but my eyes still don't know what correct(perfect) ellipses are.
My previous assignment for this warmups: https://www.proko.com/s/4wmu
Eyes Training App(https://eyes.training/) by Kyler Griggs always helps me find mistakes in my ellipses.
Turned out to be more challenging and way messier than I expected. I’ll definitely start doing this exercise every day until I feel more comfortable with it.
