I am quite behind on the course (Working my way through the Lines section at the moment); however, I am quite proud of how this alligator came out considering I started this course with zero drawing experience. The proportions are off and I did remove the right portion of the alligator since I wanted to focus on the more complicated parts, but it came out much better than my other drawings. Any advice on how to approach the scales would be appreciated. I tried a few different things, but they come out weird. I end up erasing them out of frustration.

I think your accuracy of the picture and the area where you used some of the darker lines is good! However, you can make the border area of the whole alligator more thicker, with the shadowing border areas even more thicker to indicate shadow.Once you do that, you can use thin dark lines on the scales. u can notice, on the scales that there is small part having some light on it, so make sure to make that part using think light line. (BTW if you're talking about the shaper of the scales, they look fine.)
