PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND
USE
ProFinish EMERALD is a high acrylic coating formulation specified for
commercial and industrial interior wall systems. The ProFinish EMERALD
interior finish is a multiple-step system designed for professional
applicators to apply a variety of attractive and extremely durable finishes
for interior surfaces. The ProFinish EMERALD system is designed for new and
restored property projects and is ideal for new or previously coated gypsum,
wallboard, concrete, concrete block, masonry, plaster and wood interior
surfaces. ProFinish EMERALD is a two-part system with a smooth base coat and
an aggregated top coat that presents a durable and long-lasting protective
surface that requires little maintenance. It is a spray-applied system that
may be splattered, splattered and knocked down or worked with a variety of
other professional application techniques for a unique custom decorative
finish. ProFinish EMERALD is a self-sealing, seamless membrane that provides
long lasting mildew resistant protection on interior commercial, industrial
and residential wall applications. The ProFinish EMERALD coating system is
recommended for new construction, maintenance and surface renovation.

PACKAGING
ProFinish EMERALD is packaged and shipped in 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon
drums. An MSDS is shipped with each order and we recommend that a set be
kept available at the job site.
JOB CONDITIONS
Proceed with application only when existing conditions will permit work to
be performed in accordance with good construction practices. This product is
to be applied only to clean, dry, sound surfaces. Do not apply this product
when the surface is wet or if ambient temperatures are below 45°
F or are expected to drop below 45°
F within a 24-hour period.
SURFACE PREPARATION
The surface must be properly prepared, cleaned and repaired before any
coating may be applied to avoid blistering, peeling or delaminating and to
assure proper adhesion. Thoroughly clean the surface to remove all dirt,
dust, loose granules, and contaminants (oil, grease, solvents, etc.), vinyl
wall covering and wall covering adhesive, wax, oil, chalk, loose material or
any other surface contaminants that may interfere with proper surface
adhesion. All old wall covering adhesive must be removed because it is
conducive to the growth of mold and mildew. Wash surface area with a
solution of 50% household bleach and 50% water. Thoroughly rinse with clean
water and allow to dry completely prior to the application of ProFinish
EMERALD. Thoroughly inspect and test surface for any moisture before
proceeding. Do not apply directly to surfaces with a pH greater than pH 9.
Mask all areas not to be textured using masking tape and paper. Plastic
sheeting should be used to protect other objects. Because of the durability
of the ProFinish EMERALD system, it will be difficult to remove the material
from other surfaces once it has dried.
HANDLING AND PREPARATION
Mix thoroughly with a drill and paddle for 5 to 10 minutes prior to
application at low speed to evenly disperse contents that may have settled
during shipping or storage. Rolling or shaking pails or drums will not
properly mix coating. DO NOT USE A DRUM HEATER or open flame or any other
source of open heat. DO NOT THIN. DO NOT ALLOW TO FREEZE. In hot weather,
opened containers may form a surface skin in the drum. This must be removed
before mixing or spraying so as not to gum up spraying equipment or cause a
lumping in the coating. All products have a shelf life. Do not open or
prepare a container until ready to apply. Use with adequate ventilation and
adhere to all applicable safety and equipment practices. Ground electrical
tools, machines and equipment in accordance with the National Electrical
Code.

Top Coat - Textured 125-150 sq. ft./gal.
Top Coat - Splatter/Knockdown 125-175 sq. ft./gal.
Coverage rates are estimates only. Actual coverage may vary depending upon
the substrate and the application technique of the professional applicator.
Apply a test area to best determine actual and exact coverage rate for each
specific project.
TYPICAL SHORT FORM
SPECIFICATIONS
Inspect surface, take photographs and detail job requirements for problem
areas. Do not apply coating until unsatisfactory conditions are repaired.
Thoroughly clean the surface to remove all debris, dirt, flaking, loose
granules, chalking and contaminants (oil, grease, solvents, etc.), or
anything else that may interfere with proper adhesion. Concrete that is
cracked or brittle must have protrusions, cracks and splits repaired. Wash
with a mix of water, a biodegradable cleaner and bleach; scrub, rinse with
clean water and allow to dry completely. ProFinish EMERALD is to be applied
only to clean, dry, sound surfaces.
New Construction:
Concrete, stucco and masonry products must be cured and free of excess
moisture prior to the application of this coating. Allow new concrete and
stucco to cure 30 days and mortar joints to cure 15 days. Concrete or mortar
with high lime content can cause excessive alkalinity resulting in coating
failure. Check the pH of the surface with an Insta-Chek Surface pH Pencil or
other measuring device. Surface alkalinity is measured in pH with pH 7 being
neutral. If the surface pH exceeds pH 9 use a concrete conditioner.
Concrete Block and Other
Porous Surfaces
New or uncoated concrete block may require an application of Block filler
prior to the application of the coating. Block filler is an acrylic latex
masonry surface filler used on new or uncoated concrete and concrete masonry
surfaces. Block filler will reduce surface porosity and fill minor voids and
imperfections for a more uniform surface appearance. Block filler may be
used under latex coatings for either interior or exterior applications.
Previously Coated Surfaces
Surfaces that are cracked or brittle must have protrusions, cracks and
splits repaired. Wash with a mix of water, a biodegradable cleaner and
bleach, scrub, rinse with clean water and allow to dry completely. If
needed, apply a concrete conditioner to increase adhesion and to tie down
any chalking residue.
Dry WALL, Gypsum and
Wallboard Surfaces
Vapor Barrier may be used to reduce loss of moisture through interior walls
and ceilings. It is used on interior gypsum wallboard, composition board,
plaster and masonry. Vapor Barrier will provide consistent vapor control
when applied over polyurethane foam adhesives.
Seam-Flex is a flexible joint compound designed to help eliminate stress
cracks in drywall. Seam-Flex is a pre-mixed, low shrinkage joint compound
that provides excellent adhesion to most substrates and will remain flexible
after drying. This product is ideal for drywall applications where joints
are subject to stress during manufacturing, transportation and settling. It
is excellent for factory-built housing. Use Seam-Flex for taping and bedding
drywall joints, corner beads and nail spots.
Surface repair:
Repair any cracks and surface imperfections using an elastomeric flexible
patching compound prior to the application of the finish coats.
Hairline cracks
ProFinish EMERALD will bridge
hairline cracks.
Small to medium cracks
(less than 1/8")
Repair any cracks and surface imperfections using an elastomeric flexible
patching compound by working the material into the crack with a broad knife.
Elastomeric fillers will remain flexible.
Medium to large cracks
(1/8" to 1/4")
Repair any cracks and surface imperfections using an elastomeric flexible
patching compound by working the material into the crack with a broad knife.
Allow it to dry. Apply a second coat if any shrinkage is evident. Apply a
thin coat over the prepared crack and apply a single layer of Reinforcing
Tape. Immediately after the tape has adhered to the first coat, apply a
second coat to smooth and embed the tape. Feather the edges for a uniform
surface.
COATING APPLICATION
ProFinish EMERALD textures must be applied using air-powered spray equipment
only. Do not attempt to apply these textures with a brush or roller. Use the
product directly from the container. Do not thin. Mix thoroughly with a
power drill and mixing blade at low speed prior to use. Apply ProFinish
EMERALD to properly prepared surfaces at the recommended spread rate.
Failure to apply the product at recommended rates may result in poor
performance or possible failure. Work the coating into the surface for
increased adhesion and to eliminate pinholes.
