In this 2.5 hour demo, I take you through my whole process of a figure drawing. Start with carefully measuring basic shapes to find the proportions and composition. From the basic shapes, construct the anatomical forms as we learned in the mannequinization lesson. Then prepare for shading by mapping in the shadows…

In this 1 hour 35 minute demo, I strictly follow the Loomis method, starting from the ball of the cranium. Then I construct the features using very basic shapes indicating the major planes of each feature. This allows me to find the correct proportions before committing to details. Then I work on the shadow mapping, 2-value drawing, and finally the detailed shading.
In this 1 hour 20 minute demo, use a slightly more advanced version of the Loomis method, in which I imagine the ball and focus more on the specific shapes of Nicolai’s head. I start the layin with the big shape of the head and break it up into front plane, side plane, and thirds of the front plane. Then I layin in the features, shadow mapping, 2-value drawing, and finally the detailed shading.
